You Can Buy Pee-wee Herman’s Big Adventure Bike Next Week

Van Eaton Galleries, a leading gallery and auction house, has confirmed that they will be hosting a significant auction titled “PopCulture: Collection of Jay Ward.” During this event, participants will have the opportunity to purchase the bicycle from the movie “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” which was famously ridden by comedian Paul Reubens on the silver screen in 1985.

In the creation of that timeless movie, a striking red and white stunt bicycle was among the 14 bikes utilized. Thirteen of these were crafted by Pedal Pusher vintage bike shop in Newport Beach, with the remaining one being custom-made by Gary Littlejohn – an influential figure who contributed to the development of the first BMX bikes. Interestingly, this specific bicycle is recognized as one of the few original ones that can be precisely linked to scenes in the film, such as the iconic moment when Pee-wee collides with a curb during the Warner Brothers lot chase and leaps over a house, or when Reubens mimics Tarzan by swinging on a vine.

When will Pee-wee Herman’s Big Adventure bike be up for auction?

The Jay Ward’s PopCulture Auction, featuring a collection of items, is set to occur on May 3 and 4, 2025, commencing at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Before the auction, there will be a public viewing of the auction items at Van Eaton Galleries, located at 12160 Ventura Blvd in Studio City, California, from now until May 1, 2025.

1985’s classic film Beetlejuice was helmed by Tim Burton, the director behind it, with a screenplay penned by Reubens, Phil Hartman, and Michael Varhol. Apart from Reubens, the talented cast included Elizabeth Daily as Dottie, Mark Holton as Francis Buxton, and Diane Salinger as Simone. This beloved comedy has earned a Certified Fresh rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 53 reviews.
