Yesteryear: Amazon MGM Nabs Rights to Anne Hathaway Movie

As a dedicated fan of Anne Hathaway‘s enchanting acting prowess and captivating versatility, I am absolutely thrilled to learn about her upcoming role in “Yesteryear.” With her remarkable ability to embody diverse characters and breathe life into their complexities, I have no doubt that she will bring Natalie to the big screen with an authenticity that will leave audiences spellbound.

In a fierce bidding process, Amazon’s film studio, MGM, has emerged victorious for the movie adaptation of “Yesteryear“. Anne Hathaway is set to star as the lead, while the project will be adapted from Caro Claire Burke’s upcoming first novel, which is slated for publication by Knopf in 2026.

Beyond her role as an actor, the Academy Award winner has additionally joined the project as a producer under her Somewhere Pictures label. This represents another creative partnership between Hathaway and Amazon MGM Studios, following her recent acting stint in Prime Video’s romantic comedy film titled The Idea of You. Guymon Casady, Suzan Bymel, and Alexandra Holcomb are also on board as producers. At this point, neither a director nor a writer has been assigned to the production.

What is Yesteryear about?

The story revolves around Natalie, a woman who embodies a conventional way of living. Her picturesque farmhouse on a bustling ranch is decorated in rustic charm with a hint of clutter, her husband being a dashing cowboy, and their six adorable children each more endearing than the rest. However, what the synopsis (via Deadline) doesn’t reveal are the presence of nannies and producers behind the scenes, an industrial-grade kitchen with hidden high-tech appliances, her husband being the political equivalent of a Kennedy, and their oldest daughter starting to question whether Natalie is a ‘traditional wife’. The millions of followers who admire Natalie might not be affected by these secrets. As for the critics – the privileged, educated, coastal elites who label her an anti-feminist maverick? They’re just envious. In truth, Natalie isn’t merely enjoying a comfortable life; she’s embodying the ideal of what life should be and, by coincidence, is also expanding an empire from it.

After waking up, Natalie finds herself in a life that isn’t hers. Her house, her spouse, and her children are all recognizable, but something feels wrong. Her kitchen has a flickering fire instead of electricity, her kids appear unkempt, and her soft-spoken husband is now proficient at farming. Her “daughter” informs her it’s 1805 – when just the day before Natalie was posting pictures of homemade sourdough on Instagram, she’s now expected to gather firewood and wash clothes by hand until her hands are raw. She wonders if she’s been thrust into a harsh reality TV show or if it’s some kind of time travel. Could this be a divine test or a trick of the devil? Despite dealing with forces beyond her control, Natalie soon discovers she’s pregnant with her new husband’s child. It becomes clear that no matter how she arrived here, what truly matters is finding a way back.
