Yellowstone Kayce Dutton Spin-off Show With Luke Grimes Eyed at CBS

Although Yellowstone concluded in December, the main series’ characters are set to appear in various spin-offs, as suggested by rumors. Reportedly, CBS is considering a Yellowstone spin-off featuring Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton.

Who is involved in the Yellowstone spin-off with Luke Grimes at CBS?

In simpler terms, the new series centering around Kayce will follow a format of solving cases (a procedural) and will primarily revolve around his duties as a livestock commissioner and his past as a Navy SEAL, as reported by Deadline.

It’s being whispered that Spencer Hudnut could be part of the upcoming series and might take up the role of the show’s lead director. Spencer Hudnut is widely recognized for his work as an executive producer, eventually becoming the showrunner of SEAL Team – a military drama series that was broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ over its seven-season span.

On the Yellowstone series, Grimes was initially cast as one of the main characters and starred throughout all five seasons broadcasted by Paramount Network. In the final episode of the show, Kayce chose to transfer ownership of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. The sale price for the ranch was $1.25 per acre, the same amount his ancestors paid when they moved to Montana long ago. As part of this agreement, Kayce is permitted to reside on a portion of the property with his wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and their son Tate (Brecken Merrill).

Kayce’s standalone show is one of several new series that will broaden the world created by Sheridan’s Yellowstone. A potential series starring Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, featuring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their roles from Yellowstone, is currently being developed. Another spin-off titled The Madison, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Matthew Fox in leading roles, is set to debut around 2025.

Apart from Sheridan’s work on Yellowstone, he has developed two spin-offs set in the same universe: 1883 and 1923. At present, the second season of 1923 is being aired on Paramount+.
