As a die-hard South cinema fan who’s been living and breathing these melodies since the dawn of time (or at least since 2019), it’s no easy task to pick just one favorite from this stellar lineup! Each song has transported me to different worlds, made me dance like nobody’s watching, and even shed a tear or two in some cases.
As 2024 draws nearer, a number of popular songs from the Southern film industry have found their way onto our streaming services. Although some quickly faded from memory, others left a lasting impression – be it during social gatherings, workout routines, or simply for relaxation and unwinding.
2024’s beginning found us swaying to Kurchi Madathapetti from the movie Guntur Kaaram starring Mahesh Babu. The song’s lyric video left everyone in awe, but what truly stood out were the captivating visuals of Mahesh and Sreeleela passionately dancing.
Following this, by February, “Manjummel Boys,” a production from Malayalam, hit theaters and the song “Kuthanthram” performed by Vedan climbed its way to the top of the charts as well.
Last March, the captivating tune “Hithalaka Karibyada Maava” from the Kannada film “Karataka Damanaka,” starring Shiva Rajkumar and Prabhudeva, gained immense popularity. Coincidentally, in the same month, I enthusiastically joined in the celebration of Ram Charan’s 39th birthday, as they unveiled the debut single titled “Jaragandi” for their upcoming project, Game Changer.
As April arrived, Fahadh Faasil and his team graced our movie screens with the captivating film “Aavesham,” illuminating theaters everywhere. Simultaneously, they released the first single from the film titled “Illuminati,” which quickly became one of the most popular songs in 2024, dominating music charts.
Starting May 2024, the horror-comedy film Aranmanai 4 debuted, featuring the dance track “Achacho” by Tamannaah Bhatia and Raashi Khanna for audiences to enjoy. In June, an indie song titled “Aasa Kooda” became a popular tune among listeners. As for July, the romantic number “Water Packet” from Raayan had everyone yearning for love.
This August, popular Kannada actor Ganesh debuted on the silver screen with his film titled “Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi.” In addition to being a delightful romantic-comedy, the movie included an enchanting song named “Dwapara.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve got to share my recent entertainment journey! In the first fortnight of September, I found myself grooving to Thalapathy Vijay’s rhythmic steps in Matta from The GOAT. The second half of the month, however, had me captivated by Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor’s performance in Chuttamalle from Devara: Part 1. Moreover, I couldn’t help but lose myself in the romantic Malayalam track Kiliye from Ajayante Randam Moshanam. Each of these experiences added a unique flavor to my September entertainment palette!
By the end of 2024, we found ourselves perfectly in sync with the tunes of “Manasilaayo” from Rajinikanth’s film Vettaiyan and, eventually, with “Peelings” from Allu Arjun’s movie Pushpa 2: The Rule.
