Y2K Trailer Previews A24’s Disaster Comedy Movie

As someone who lived through the Y2K scare and can still remember the anxiety that filled the air as we waited for the world to potentially end, I must say, A24 has really nailed it with the upcoming disaster comedy “Y2K”. The trailer alone is a perfect blend of nostalgia and humor, transporting us back to the late ’90s and early 2000s while also playing on our fears of technological breakdown.

2024 will see the arrival of the film trailer for “Y2K,” a humor-infused disaster movie produced by A24, scheduled to premiere in cinemas on December 6, 2024. The creative minds behind this project are Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney, who both wrote and directed it.

Afilm studio known for hits like Hereditary, Lady Bird, Moonlight, among others, is set to release a new film that delves into the subjects of catastrophe and longing, using nods to the late ’90s and early 2000s as its backdrop.

What is in Y2K trailer?

In the Y2K movie trailer, New Year’s Eve takes an unexpected turn into chaos. The story focuses on two old high school friends who usher in the year 2000 only to see the world plunge into widespread disarray due to a Y2K malfunction. Starring Rachel Zegler (from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Jaeden Martell (Mr. Harrigan’s Phone), and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2) as Laura, Eli, and Danny respectively.

31st December 1999: Two ordinary high school students, Martell and Dennison, make a daring move by crashing the grandest party of the millennium on the brink of the new year. As the clock ticks down to midnight, their night turns out to be wilder than they ever dreamed possible.

Apart from Alicia Silverstone (from Clueless), Lachlan Watson (of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Mason Gooding (Scream VI), Tim Heidecker (Us), Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things), Miles Robbins (Blockers), Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus), Daniel Zolghadri (Funny Pages), and renowned rapper The Kid Laroi are also part of the Y2K ensemble.

In partnership with Mooney, Evan Winter contributed to the script for this movie, while Jonah Hill took on the role of producer. This is Hill’s newest project with A24, following his directorial debut “Mid90s.” Additionally, it signifies Mooney’s first time directing a film.

Additional producers include Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin, Chris Storer, and Winter.

As someone who has been following the film festival circuit for years, I was thrilled to learn that Y2K had its world premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) earlier this year. Having attended numerous premieres and screenings over the past decade, I can confidently say that this film is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The buzz surrounding it has been palpable, and I eagerly await its theater debut on December 6.
