It appears that “Call of Duty 6” and “Warzone” are seeing a decline in popularity as indicated by recent Steam data, with a noticeable decrease in the number of players for both titles.
At first, Black Ops was warmly accepted upon its launch, but as subsequent updates didn’t seem to appeal to the gaming community, it found difficulty in sustaining player engagement over time.
xQc recently analyzed this issue during a stream, arriving at a surprisingly logical conclusion.
xQc Blames the CDL
xQc attributes the decline in player engagement to the heavy focus on pro players.
He contends that the developers are overly focused on creating updates and expansions specifically for the Call of Duty League, which inadvertently pushes away the typical gamer.
According to xQc’s perspective, this strategy not only spoils the gaming experience for less frequent players but also seems to be a factor in decreasing the number of players. Over time, this trend could make the competitive Call of Duty esports environment progressively insignificant.
“Pro players need to f****** shut up, log off the game, throw the computer in the garbage, and get a job at Home Depot or McDonald’s,”
xQc exclaimed, referring to the influence of Gentlemen’s Agreements (GAs) on ranked play.
The Impact of GAs
CDL professionals frequently implement Game Actions (GAs) for the purpose of restricting certain weapons or items, thereby controlling their usage during competitive matches.
In well-structured competitions, developers usually implement these limitations, ensuring that casual gamers abide by the professional players’ regulations.
Or:
When games are set up for competition, developers often instill these restrictions, requiring less experienced players to comply with the rules followed by professionals.
This often results in a significantly reduced selection of weapons and equipment for everyone.
“The game could be more,” xQc noted. “You can only use one out of 60 guns and four attachments, even though there are six slots.”
OpTic Gaming Agrees with xQc
During the latest podcast from OpTic Gaming, Hector, known as “H3CZ“, and his colleagues had a chat about xQc’s comments regarding Call of Duty League Game Rules (CDL GAs).
While they found his rant entertaining, they acknowledged the validity of his points.
Emphasizing the issue, H3CZ pointed out that Black Ops 6 has an excessive number of Gameplay Archetypes (GAs), and suggested that developers should work on better weapon balance to address this concern.
While it’s true that certain Game Actions (GAs) are essential, it’s not necessarily the case that all weapons and items should be prohibited. Instead, we might strive for a harmonious equilibrium between XQC’s viewpoint and the prevailing competitive strategies, which seems more balanced.
Hello @dtsay56 and @CODLeague,
We’re reaching out on behalf of the enthusiastic CDL Challenger’s community to express our gratitude.
We appreciate it immensely when Optic Hecz keeps us informed.

It’s unclear if these criticisms will be tackled. Plans for events and tournaments in 2025 have already been set, with the GA system already deeply established.
It’s undecided whether these criticisms will be resolved. Already, arrangements for events and tourneys in 2025 are in place, with the GA system fully integrated.
Instead, for upcoming “Call of Duty” series, adopting a new strategy that encourages greater engagement with the wider player base might lead to a more interactive and evolving ranked system for everyone involved.
