Xbox lead claims it’s not ruling out any first party games coming to Switch or PS5

As a long-time Xbox fan with countless hours spent navigating the Halo universe and battling it out in Gears of War, the news that Microsoft is open to releasing their games on rival platforms like PlayStation and Switch has left me both excited and slightly apprehensive. On one hand, I’m thrilled at the prospect of playing my favorite Xbox games on other consoles, making it easier for friends who aren’t Xbox owners to join in the fun. However, as someone who has deeply cherished the exclusivity that the Xbox brand has offered, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia and wonder if this shift might dilute the unique Xbox experience.

Xbox is open to the thought of releasing games on other competitors’ systems, such as the PlayStation and Switch, not just for survival but also for growth. Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer has stated that they are ready to fully accept this idea, suggesting that if players desire a game, it should be available on any console, regardless of its sanctity.

In a recent chat with Bloomberg, Spencer expressed similar views, touching upon various subjects including the possibility of Xbox Game Studios titles appearing on other platforms. Following the successful porting of games like Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded, Spencer’s team is content with the initial outcomes and plans to continue this strategy. Moreover, he emphasized that no game would be off-limits for cross-platform distribution.

Spencer said to Bloomberg, “I don’t see any clear ‘no-go’ boundaries in our collection.” He further clarified that while it’s premature to make any definitive statements about the future of the Halo series, there are currently no red flags or restrictions preventing its development.

One significant instance of Xbox’s popular games reaching platforms like PlayStation and Switch is the upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Scheduled for December 9 on Xbox consoles and PC, this title will also be available on PlayStation 5 starting spring 2025. Although there may typically be a delay, the fact that such a large game like Indiana Jones is crossing over suggests that Xbox is open to sharing its major titles with other platforms. However, the company has faced challenges recently, including Microsoft letting go of approximately 2,500 employees and shutting down several studios, including Tango Gameworks, which produced one of the top 10 games in 2023.

With Indiana Jones set to debut on the PS5 by next spring, it’s intriguing to consider which other Xbox games might make the leap. Keep an eye out for updates about Xbox titles moving to competing systems, all right here on Shacknews.
