Xbox fans lose faith in Microsoft as exclusives jump to PlayStation

As an ardent gamer who has been loyal to Microsoft’s Xbox ecosystem since its early days, I find myself grappling with a heavy heart and a growing sense of disillusionment. The tide seems to be turning, and it appears that my beloved Xbox is losing its unique allure.

It seems that Microsoft’s Xbox community is struggling to maintain its allegiance towards the gaming platform due to an increasing number of exclusives being released on PS5, coupled with Microsoft’s emphasis on developing multiplatform games. The recent announcement of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle for PS5 has further diminished the incentive for fans to remain within the Xbox ecosystem.

Xbox fans have little faith

Though Xbox has earned accolades for releasing games such as Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves on PlayStation, some fans are displeased due to new exclusive titles appearing on Sony’s console too. With Game Pass subscription costs rising, a decrease in exclusive content, and the absence of PlayStation exclusives on Xbox, many fans are contemplating transitioning away from the platform.

In a Reddit discussion focusing on Xbox exclusives, users voiced their discontent over insufficient motivations for choosing Microsoft’s console.

“The individual purchased a PS5 primarily for the purpose of playing games like FF7 Rebirth, FF16, Stellar Blade, Spider-Man 2, HoyoVerse titles, among others. If these were available on Xbox instead, they wouldn’t have opted for the PS5. The exclusive games attracted them to the console. In essence, if all Xbox games eventually become available on PlayStation, they won’t need their Xbox anymore. However, this person has been an Xbox enthusiast since its inception, but they find it challenging to remain loyal due to the current situation.”

On the flip side, PlayStation is transferring some of its major exclusives like The Last of Us and God of War: Ragnarök from console to PC, but these titles won’t be making an appearance on Xbox. It’s worth noting that the PS5 is currently seeing a greater influx of AAA games compared to Xbox, leaving some fans less than thrilled about the situation.

What exclusives are off the table?

Due to Indiana Jones and The Great Circle arriving on PlayStation, fans are perplexed about which games are exclusive to certain platforms and which aren’t. For instance, Bethesda’s Starfield is currently exclusive to Xbox consoles, along with Halo: Infinite. However, there’s uncertainty regarding whether games like Avowed will continue to be exclusive to Xbox or if they’ll also become available on PS5.

The skepticism towards the Xbox console among its community isn’t solely due to more exclusives being released on multiple platforms, but rather because there’s a lack of clear information about which games are truly exclusive. For instance, will Fable, traditionally an Xbox-exclusive series, be available on PS5? Is Perfect Dark a genuine Xbox-only title or will it also appear on other platforms? Similarly, is Marvel’s Blade intended to rival Spider-Man as an Xbox exclusive, or does it plan to release on multiple platforms as well?

As an enthusiast, I can’t help but acknowledge that Xbox stands as the main rival to PlayStation in the gaming console market. The survival of this platform is crucial, but if potential buyers are shying away because they perceive a lack of security during their purchase, it raises questions about Xbox’s longevity from a hardware perspective.
