On January 23rd, 2025, Microsoft is bringing back its Xbox Developer Direct, revealing some of their most eagerly awaited games, including a secretive mystery title.
Xbox Developer Direct returns with a look at three highly anticipated games
On Thursday, January 23rd at 10 A.M. Pacific Time (or 1 P.M. Eastern Time), the Xbox Developer Direct event is taking place. This event will give us a fresh perspective on three games that have been previously announced: Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. During this event, the creators themselves will offer an extensive look at each game, sharing details about their development process.
The announcement doesn’t provide much information about the potential new game, leading us to speculate that it may be a fresh title from one of their studios. Games such as Fable or Gears of War: E-Day might not fit the bill. Nevertheless, there has been talk swirling about a possible remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, developed in partnership between Bethesda and Virtuos. However, this is merely speculation at this point, so approach it with caution for now.
Last year at the Xbox Games Showcase, we got a glimpse of “Doom: The Dark Ages”. This game is developed by id Software and serves as a prequel to the contemporary Doom saga that commenced with its 2016 launch. It promises to unveil the “backstory behind the Doom Slayer’s fury.
In 2023, Compulsion Games unveiled a new title called “South of Midnight.” Known for creating “Contrast” and “We Happy Few,” this studio is now working on their next adventure – an action game with a third-person perspective set in the American Deep South. The main character, Hazel, will confront monsters inspired by Southern folklore.
2024 saw the unveiling of Expedition 33, showcased with a captivating preview. What’s even more noteworthy is its stellar ensemble cast, comprising Charlie Cox (known for his role in Daredevil), Andy Serkis (renowned for The Planet of the Apes series), Ben Starr (recognized from Final Fantasy XVI), and Jennifer English (prominent in Baldur’s Gate 3).
