Xbox deny rumors that they were planning to pull out of Saudi Arabia

As a seasoned gamer with roots deeply entrenched in the gaming community across various regions, I can attest to the rollercoaster of emotions that come with such rumors and subsequent clarifications. The whispers of Xbox potentially leaving Saudi Arabia, a place where I’ve shared countless hours of camaraderie and virtual triumphs with fellow gamers, sent a shiver down my spine.

There have been whispers circulating this week suggesting that Microsoft might be planning to withdraw the Xbox from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with a focus on Saudi Arabia. This speculation originated from a popular video game journalist in Saudi Arabia who declared that “Microsoft has allegedly communicated its intention to cease selling Xbox products in Saudi Arabia to major retailers”.

As a gamer, I’ve got some news – Microsoft has weighed in on those rumors swirling around, and they’re flat out denying them! The question now lingers: Is it damage control or are they truly committed to sticking around in this gaming scene? Time will only tell.

Xbox apparently does want to stay in Saudi Arabia

According to a conversation with Windows Central, Ami Silverman, the Head of Consumer Sales for Xbox, refuted speculations that Xbox is planning to exit the market in Saudi Arabia.

Xbox devices are available in all current Xbox hardware-supported countries, including Saudi Arabia. Console availability may vary by country but Xbox games can be played on consoles, PCs, and on phones, tablets or TVs where Xbox Cloud Gaming is available.

Currently, it’s clear that Silverman’s language is quite vague. She doesn’t offer any specific insights regarding the future of Xbox. However, a leaked presentation from the 2023 FTC trial hints at a possible significant role for Cloud gaming in the future of Xbox, which could bring substantial changes if this proves to be true.

But for now, at least, we can rest assure that Xbox will remain in Saudi Arabia.
