Xbox confirms Nintendo Switch 2 support as they’re a “big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry”

With the specifications, price, launch date, and game details of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 now publicly available, there’s a palpable sense of anticipation for this innovative console/handheld device. In addition to established studios such as EA, Activision, and others, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has confirmed that they will maintain support for Nintendo players well into the next generation.

Xbox games will come to Nintendo Switch 2

In a recent chat with Variety, head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, revealed that they plan to carry on releasing new Xbox games onto the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, if it becomes available. Given their shift from traditional console-exclusive games like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle being playable on PS5, support for Nintendo Switch 2 was anticipated regardless.

Although Spencer didn’t explicitly say whether games such as the newly remastered Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or the forthcoming Fallout 3 Remaster will be available on the new handheld device, it’s clear that Xbox is committed to offering suitable new games for their console when the timing is right.

Spencer affirmed, “We’ve been backing Switch 1, now I wish to back Switch 2.” He emphasized, “Nintendo has been an excellent collaborator. We believe it offers a distinctive avenue for us to connect with gamers who aren’t PC or Xbox users. This allows us to expand our community of enthusiasts for the franchises we cherish, which is crucial for us to keep developing games that matter to our fans.”

Spencer stated that he strongly trusts in the impact Nintendo has on this sector and their ongoing collaboration. He emphasized that incorporating their franchises is a crucial aspect of our planned future, although he declined to confirm if this implies upcoming titles such as the Halo: Combat Evolved Remake will be playable on Switch.

It’s no secret that Xbox has plans to support the new Nintendo handheld in some way. In their acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Xbox pledged to bring Call of Duty to their hardware, but this hasn’t occurred yet. Considering this, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 might be the first Nintendo device since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts to host a Call of Duty game.
