X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo has revealed what his version of Season 2 would have looked like.
In March 2024, Disney+ launched a Marvel Animation series titled X-Men ’97. This production was orchestrated by DeMayo, yet he was removed as the main writer just prior to its premiere. Despite this, DeMayo remains listed as a writer for Season 2, although it’s uncertain how much of his original content will make it into the final product.
What did Beau DeMayo say about X-Men ’97 Season 2?
On X, DeMayo discussed what his version of X-Men ’97 Season 2 would have looked like.
As a diehard fan, I can’t help but wonder about the new costumes for the X-Men in season 2 of #xmen97.
When I envision our next adventure, I imagine E-Day causing a nationwide ban on mutant task forces like the X-Men within the US. So, in my vision for season 2, Professor Xavier…

In his message, he expressed his curiosity about the costumes of the New X-Men in season 2 of #xmen97, specifically mentioning that he intended to use the uniform designs by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly.
As a devoted fan, I’d reimagine Season 2 like this: “In my tale, E-Day sparks a ban on mutant task forces such as the X-Men within the United States. With Xavier yearning to advance his dream and rival teams X-Force and X-Factor emerging, he decides to establish X-Corp. Amidst the chaos, he plans to construct the iconic tower from the comics upon the remnants of Genosha. This move is a provocation towards Val Cooper and the UN, as X-Force now operates beyond their jurisdiction.
In my perspective, Quietly’s designs seemed more martial, a theme I planned to delve into during Season 2 as Xavier gradually turns his vision military, shifting them from their heroic roles. The climactic revelation in the S2 finale (originally planned but now cut) would have shown that Onslaught was subtly taking over Xavier, causing him to disobey the UN, establish X-Corp, and militarize his team.
When the X-Men recognize this fact, and Onslaught emerges at the close of Episode 9, they revert to their iconic 90s attire once more and assume their heroic roles. They rally the Avengers, X-Factor, and X-Force to confront Onslaught, who has stolen Ship from Apocalypse and uses it as a weapon against Washington D.C., particularly during Graydon Creed’s inauguration ceremony.
A premiere date for X-Men ’97 Season 2 has not yet been announced by Marvel.
