X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo is weighing in on Marvel’s long-delayed Blade movie.
In March 2024, the Marvel Animation X-Men ’97 television series, developed by DeMayo, started streaming on Disney+. However, just before its premiere, DeMayo was let go as the head writer of the show. Despite this, he is set to receive credit for the upcoming second season.
In another development, the Marvel Cinematic Universe project known as “Blade” has faced difficulties taking flight. It was revealed in 2019 that Mahershala Ali would embody the iconic vampire slayer, but since then, Ali made an unaccredited vocal appearance in last year’s Eternals, and as of now, there is no release date for the movie.
At the New York premiere of Jurassic World Rebirth, Ali casually mentioned, “Give Marvel a call, I’m all set and eager to let them know.
David S. Goyer, who played a significant role in the initial Blade trilogy featuring Wesley Snipes, recently hinted at some progress on the project, expressing that he’s reached out to Marvel for collaboration but was told they were content with their current situation. However, no definitive Blade updates have surfaced lately, leading fans to ponder if this film will eventually be produced.

On X, DeMayo shared a post discussing Marvel’s rejection of Goyer’s proposal, stating, “This is typically how they operate. Marvel Studios often acts against themselves.

In a different post, he expressed about Ali’s remarks, “This is truly unfortunate. It’s almost like he’s casting shadows.

Although the fate of Blade is undecided, it’s been officially announced that both a second and a third season of X-Men ’97 are under development. Currently, there’s no release date set for Season 2, but it’s anticipated to debut at some point in 2026.
