As a long-time WWE fan and someone who has witnessed the evolution of numerous factions throughout the years, I can’t help but be captivated by The Judgment Day and their dramatic storyline twists. Finn Balor’s recent interview on “What’s the Story?” gave us some fascinating insights into how Dominik Mysterio’s unexpected heel turn played a significant role in making this faction one of the most hated units in WWE.
At WrestleMania 38, Finn Balor, head of The Judgment Day, discussed Dominik Mysterio’s impact on their group. This trio, consisting of Edge (formerly Adam Copeland), Dominik, and Damian Priest, made their debut together. Later, Rhea Ripley joined them, expanding the ranks of The Judgment Day.
I was taken aback when The Judgment Day underwent a significant transformation. Instead of standing by Edge, they unexpectedly removed him as our leader and handed the reins to Finn Balor. This shift in power brought about a new focus – targeting the Mysterio family mercilessly. For months on end, Rey and Dominik bore the brunt of their attacks. However, things took a turn when Edge, once an ally, extended a helping hand to them during their darkest hours.
At Clash at the Castle 2022, Edge and Rey Mysterio teamed up to defeat The Judgment Day. But the crowd was left reeling when Dominik Mysterio turned on both Edge and his own father, Rey Mysterio, in an unexpected heel move. This shocking twist, which no one saw coming, gave Dominik’s career a fresh boost. He teamed up with The Judgment Day, creating a formidable villainous alliance that left fans speechless. Since then, Dominik Mysterio has seen great success in his solo WWE matches, signifying a major upward trend in his career, even without the assistance of his father.
The unexpected traitorous act by Dominik Mysterio against his father transformed The Judgment Day into one of WWE’s most despised groups. Whenever they make an appearance in the arena, they are met with a barrage of boos from the crowd. Last year saw an impressive milestone for this faction as each member held a championship title at some point, demonstrating WWE’s strong faith in them. Finn Balor, the head of The Judgment Day, has shared his thoughts on how Dominik’s arrival benefited every member within their ranks.
Finn Balor credits Dominik Mysterio for the crowd heat
On a recent episode of “What’s the Story?”, Finn Balor shared his thoughts on how Domink Mysterio joining The Judgment Day has sparked excitement among fans. Balor was taken aback by the unexpected turn of events, as he had assumed that him, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley would be there to support Dominik instead.
He explained, “You wouldn’t have imagined the consequences. I began working with ‘The Judgement Day.’ Then it was Damian and my responsibility to assist Dom. I thought naively that we were supposed to help Dominik. In truth, however, we were the ones being helped by Dominik to become a more convincing heel team.”
In addition, Dominik’s remarkable progress during the ThunderDome period in 2020 was brought up. This was a time when he gained experience and adjusted to wrestling in front of a live TV audience. His mentor remarked, “He received most of his training on-the-job. He debuted in the ThunderDome, and those matches were essentially his first ones… He’s quite unusual, as he mastered his skills through live television.”
Lately, The Judgment Day has been a significant force within the fanbase. However, observant fans have detected signs indicating that this group could be on the brink of disbanding.
