As a long-time WWE fan and avid gamer of the WWE 2K series, I’ve witnessed some unforgettable rivalries throughout the years. But none have been as frustrating and infuriating as CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre’s current feud.
At WWE WrestleMania 40, former WWE Champion CM Punk interfered in a match between Drew McIntyre and cost him the world title. After this incident, Punk hasn’t stopped instigating conflicts with McIntyre.
During the WWE Clash at the Castle event in Scotland, Punk acted as the referee but inadvertently denied McIntyre another opportunity to claim the world title. After the broadcast, commentator Wade Barrett voiced his annoyance towards Punk’s persistent interference in McIntyre’s matches during the post-show analysis. Barrett strongly criticized both WWE and Punk for ignoring this issue, going as far as proposing that Punk be terminated from the company.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: I managed to make it into the Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Once I snatched the briefcase, I saw an opportunity and went for it, cashing in on the championship bout between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins. But just as I was about to claim my prize, CM Punk suddenly appeared and wrecked my plans by interfering and attacking me, denying me another shot at the title.
After the Money in the Bank event, Jackie Redmond approached me backstage for my take on Punk’s latest interruption during the Clash at the Castle. I couldn’t hide my annoyance, but all I could muster up was expressing that I had already expressed my displeasure towards Punk’s persistent meddling in WWE business, and suggested that some disciplinary action might be necessary. My patience with Punk’s antics seemed to be dwindling.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve noticed that ever since CM Punk made his comeback to WWE, the company has been cashing in on his fame. They’ve brought back merchandise showcasing his legendary designs from his earlier stint, but it seems SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett isn’t too pleased with this move.
The night CM Punk returned to WWE, his merchandise sales were in the six-figures.

Wade Barrett expresses frustration with CM Punk’s merchandise re-release
WWE sparked renewed interest in CM Punk merchandise sales by bringing back beloved designs, such as his “Best in the World” white t-shirt. More recently, WWE put out a 2011 The Nexus t-shirt featuring CM Punk’s image, but this move hasn’t been welcomed by the original leader of The Nexus, Wade Barrett. He took to social media platform X (previously known as Twitter) to voice his disapproval.
“What’s a NEXUS shirt all about? That’s bizarre, I’d say! Someone in merchandising is due for a reprimand this week, I suppose.” #DMcIntyreWWE

Around the end of 2010, CM Punk became a member of The Nexus. Later on, he ousted Wade Barrett from the group and assumed control of the faction’s leadership in the year 2011.
