As a devoted wrestling fan with decades of memories etched into my soul, I can say that the connection between Mick Foley and Bray Wyatt through the Mandible Claw was a unique and poignant bond. While Bray Wyatt’s transformation from “Eater of Worlds” to Firefly Funhouse character left many scratching their heads, it was the arrival of The Fiend that truly captivated us all.
Legendary WWE inductee Mick Foley and Bray Wyatt shared a unique bond through the Mandible Claw maneuver. In the year 2019, Bray Wyatt unveiled his innovative Firefly Funhouse character, leaving fans perplexed by his cheerful demeanor, given his earlier ominous “Eater of Worlds” identity.
After many months of watching vignettes, fans eventually uncovered the true aspect of Bray Wyatt’s persona when he presented The Fiend. In his initial appearance, The Fiend attacked Finn Balor.
About three weeks passed, and Mick Foley reappeared on WWE broadcasts, where he was met by The Fiend. In a surprising turn of events, The Fiend used the Mandible Claw, a move that Foley had previously popularized in the 90s, against him.
After the assault, Bray Wyatt often employed the Mandible Claw against his adversaries, making it his distinctive technique. Wyatt’s future seemed promising as he consistently amazed spectators with his original gimmicks, but unfortunately, in August 2023, he died from a heart attack at the age of 36.
Even though Bray Wyatt (Wyatt in this context) is no longer around, his impact endures through his enthusiastic followers and peers who carry on his wrestling traditions. Notably, his brother Bo Dallas maintains the Wyatt Sicks faction as a tribute to him. Lately, Mick Foley has expressed thoughts about Bray Wyatt adopting one of Wyatt’s signature moves.
WWE’s Mick Foley reflects on Bray Wyatt’s using his move
During a chat with MuscleManMalcolm at the GCW Fan Fest, Mick Foley expressed his appreciation for Bray Wyatt’s use of the Mandible Claw. He explained, “I’m a big fan. Some folks aren’t, but they reach out due to respect. Paul Heyman contacted me, and I knew instantly what to say – no need for thought. I adore it. It makes me feel like I’m still connected to that show every Monday night, particularly when that move is executed.
It’s clear that even wrestler Britt Baker from AEW has employed the Mandible Claw during her bouts, underscoring the enduring impact of Mick Foley’s famous move as it lives on in the repertoires of modern-day wrestlers.
