As a lifelong wrestling enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the industry from the Attitude Era to the modern-day landscape, I can’t help but feel a pang of both excitement and disappointment at the prospect of a WWE and AEW crossover show.
WWE is preparing for its upcoming high-tier live event, SummerSlam, this coming Saturday. Lately, there’s been talk about a potential joint show with AEW, an idea that fans have been excitedly discussing since AEW debuted in 2019. They’ve envisioned a spectacle featuring stars from both AEW and WWE.
In the year 2022, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) formed a collaborative partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), leading to the pay-per-view event AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. This unique event showcased battles between performers from both organizations. Over time, fans have been thrilled by iconic encounters like Kenny Omega versus Will Ospreay, Bryan Danielson against Kazuchika Okada, and numerous other highly anticipated matchups.
With All Elite Wrestling (AEW) teaming up with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in a cross-promotion, and WWE forging alliances with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and Pro Wrestling NOAH, fans are eagerly anticipating a joint event between these wrestling powerhouses. The idea of a crossover show featuring AEW and WWE is thrilling for spectators, but it doesn’t seem to be as appealing to the higher-ups within WWE.
Will #AEW and #WWE ever do a crossover?

WWE’s response to the AEW crossover show: ‘No Interest’
As a passionate gamer, I’m always excited about potential crossovers between my favorite games. Recently, I heard some intriguing news that sparked my interest as a fan of both WWE and AEW. Chris Legentil, the WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Head of Communications, shared his thoughts on a possible crossover show with AEW during an interview on the Sports Media podcast with Richard Deitsch. He didn’t shy away from addressing whether our promotion is interested in hosting such an epic event! I can hardly wait to see what could happen if these two powerhouses team up for a crossover showdown.
He declared, “I’m not interested and I want to clarify this point. There are indeed numerous gifted individuals who aren’t part of WWE right now. There’s no chance anyone is being let go. It’s simply to say, the response to your question is no such discussion has taken place regarding that.”
As a devoted fan, I’ve often found myself comparing the wrestling world to Hollywood and its infamous figures. Just as Harvey Weinstein cast a long shadow over the film industry, so too does WWE seem to dominate professional wrestling. But here’s the twist, if given the chance, I, Tony Khan, would leap at the opportunity for an AEW-WWE crossover, embracing the potential unity and competition it brings.

Legentil acknowledges that there are talented wrestlers beyond WWE, but he clarifies no talks about a joint show with AEW have taken place. Lately, Tony Khan, head of All Elite Wrestling, has expressed enthusiasm for such a crossover event. However, it seems WWE is not currently entertaining the idea of partnering with Khan and his organization.
At present, there’s no cross-show collaboration underway; however, both WWE and AEW are gearing up for significant upcoming events: SummerSlam on WWE on August 3 and AEW All In on August 25.
