WWE 2K25 cover star leak seemingly tees up historic Showcase mode

Details about WWE 2K25, the upcoming video game from 2K, have been unveiled for the first time. As we’ve entered a new year, it’s time for marketing to kick off and gear up, with the game expected to drop around WrestleMania. Although specific details are scarce at the moment, there’s a leak suggesting that the cover star for WWE 2K25 might hint at an unprecedented Showcase mode designed for players to immerse themselves in.

Starting from 2K22, the yearly installments have generally been excellent, with each version gradually enhancing its base. In our 2K24 review, we commended the impressive presentation, engaging gameplay, and variety of modes, including fresh match types. The roster was also historically large, boasting over 200 wrestlers from launch, and 2K further enriched it by adding legendary superstars like CM Punk as DLC.

2K24 was well-received by fans, but they’re hoping that 2K25 will surpass it. Fingers crossed for a wider variety of match types and new NXT wrestlers joining the roster. Additionally, there might be another MyRise and Showcase mode. Historically, Showcase mode has focused on one superstar’s career, like John Cena in 2K23. The potential theme for WWE 2K25’s Showcase mode could be revealed due to the cover star leak.

WWE 2K25 cover star leak

It looks like Roman Reigns, often referred to as the tribal chief, has been confirmed as the star on the cover for WWE 2K25. Hints about his role in the game were dropped during a backstage scene that debuted on Netflix’s Monday Night RAW, but it appears that images of the actual cover have now leaked online.

Images featuring Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Bayley, Damien Priest, and Liv Morgan have been added to the Steam game’s profile page. Interestingly, there’s also an image on Steam that seems to depict the cover of WWE 2K25, where Roman Reigns is seen about to throw a Superman punch while Paul Heyman looks on admiringly from behind.

Since then, Steam has swapped out the original image for the game’s logo, however, the leaked cover art is still available on Reddit.

At the moment, Roman Reigns hasn’t been confirmed as the cover star. It’s possible that other characters might be featured on the game cover too, given this leak seems to concern only the Standard edition. Previously, Cody Rhodes appeared on the cover of 2K24’s Standard edition, while Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair graced the Deluxe edition, and a variety of wrestlers were highlighted for the 40 Years of WrestleMania collection.

Possible Roman Reigns Showcase mode

If the rumors are true that Roman Reigns is the main athlete on the cover of WWE 2K25, there’s a chance we might see a dedicated Showcase mode centered around the Tribal Chief. However, it’s not always the case that the cover star gets a Showcase mode, as Cody Rhodes didn’t for 2K24. But John Cena did have one for 2K23.

Having a “Spotlight Mode” featuring Roman Reigns would be logical since he’s one of the most prominent figures within the company. His record-breaking reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion, which lasted an impressive 1,316 days, is nothing short of historic.

Despite including numerous fantastic bouts, regrettably, several outstanding matches would be overlooked due to the non-participation of wrestlers like Daniel Bryan, Edge, Cesaro, and Brock Lesnar. Moreover, certain title matches featuring Roman Reigns, such as his encounters with John Cena (in 2K23) and Cody Rhodes (in 2K24), have previously been showcased in previous game modes.

Instead of featuring a “Roman Reigns Showcase mode,” it would be more captivating to have a “Bloodline Showcase mode.” This mode could delve into the extensive history of the entire Bloodline, potentially bringing new characters like Afa and Sika into the series.

As an avid fan, I can’t help but feel the anticipation building for the potential star of Showcase mode in 2K25, if the mode indeed makes a comeback. Roman Reigns has hinted at something significant happening on January 27th, and WWE Games is adding fuel to the fire with their grand reveal scheduled for January 28th. It’s an exciting time to be a wrestling enthusiast!
