As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the launch of Concord has been a rather disappointing affair. Having seen games rise and fall, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu when I see yet another promising title falter at the starting line.
It’s not uncommon for a significant game to struggle initially upon its debut, especially when it’s introduced alongside more established titles. This phenomenon has reared its head yet again with the recent launch of Concord.
Concord is Sony’s exclusive hero-shooter that just launched on the August 23.
Game Studio Sees No Future
According to a post on the PlayStation site by Game Director Ryan Ellis, it was decided by the studio to close down Concord on September 6, 2024. If you happen to be among its purchasers, you are eligible for an official refund of the game on PS5 and PC platforms.
Ryan Ellis mentioned in his statement that they intend to examine various possibilities, some of which could potentially improve their connection with players.
As a gamer, here’s my take on it: They haven’t explicitly announced its permanent closure yet, but it could be that we’re getting an upgraded version of Concord down the line – let’s call it Multiverse 2.0. For now, though, we can confidently say that the game is no more, at least for the time being.
Low Sales And Even Lower Active Player Numbers
On August 23rd, Concord debuted on Steam with a relatively low number of players, approximately 697, according to IGN. As you might expect, the current player count has dropped significantly decreased, now standing at around 46 people playing it at the present, with a 24-hour high of just 119 players.
Liam Deane, who is the principal analyst at Omdia said:
The Steam numbers are so bad that even without the exact data on the PS5 side we can be pretty certain that the game is doing very badly.
According to IGN’s interview with Mat Piscatella from NPD Group on August 26, the sales numbers for PS5 appear to be similarly poor, based on data from NPD Group’s Player Engagement Tracker.
Concord ranked 147th in US PS5 daily active players across all titles, with fewer than 0.2% of Monday’s active PS5 players playing the game
According to analyst Simon Carless, approximately 10,000 copies of the game Concord have been sold on Steam, while roughly 15,000 copies have been sold on PlayStation.
