Wolf Man Reviews Lead To Disappointing Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic Scores

Initial critiques for Universal Pictures’ chilling production titled “The Wolf Man” have been shared, accompanied by their respective Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings. From what the critics are saying, there appears to be a split opinion among them regarding this fresh adaptation of the timeless Universal Monsters film, The Wolf Man.

Featuring Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott, and Matilda Firth, the film “Wolf Man” will make its U.S. debut on the big screen on January 17, 2025.

Wolf Man gets mixed reviews from critics

The new Wolf Man film has received diverse opinions from critics. Jonathan Sim from Coming Soon called it “the finest Blumhouse production in years,” praising its simplicity and describing it as a masterpiece of horror cinema with exceptional makeup effects. On the other hand, Jacob Oller from AV Club found the movie endearing.

Nevertheless, while The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw praised the movie for its opening and closing scenes, he was quite critical of the rest of the film. He expressed that “The parts in between are silly, off-target, and tedious with unimpressive storytelling, mediocre prosthetics, and overly dramatic ‘I’m afraid’ performances.

In a less favorable critique, Mark Kennedy from the Associated Press stated that “Wolf Man” was filled with “inexpensive sentimentality, transparent plot twists, inconsistent story flow, and a creature that causes more pain than it does predation.

Wolf Man doesn’t start with strong Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores

Initial responses to The Wolf Man, as indicated by ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, have been generally mediocre among critics at this stage. Based on 82 reviews, The Wolf Man has garnered a 57% score on the Tomatometer from Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie currently holds a 49, which falls under the “Mixed or Average” category following 31 reviews.

In spite of the relatively low ratings, there’s still a significant amount of buzz surrounding the release of The Wolf Man. As reported by Variety, initial box office forecasts indicate that the film is expected to debut with earnings ranging from $17 million to $21 million.
