As a gamer with a heart full of nostalgia for the golden age of Disney Channel, I can’t help but feel like a kid again as I eagerly anticipate the premiere of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.” Growing up, “Wizards of Waverly Place” was more than just a show to me – it was an escape into a magical world that felt so real. The news of its sequel series brings back memories of late-night TV marathons and countless rewatches.
Similar to its predecessor, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is taking advantage of the Halloween season for its series debut. The sequel series will kick off with two consecutive episodes on Tuesday, October 29th at 8/7c, followed by two more on Wednesday, October 30th. After that, new episodes will air every Friday from November 8th at 8/7c. You can catch the first eight episodes of the show on Disney+ starting October 30th.
The show titled “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” will focus on Justin’s family, who had no magic in their upbringing, and how their lives are altered when Alex arrives to introduce magic into their world. Alex, a sarcastic troublemaker, stirring things up at Justin’s home isn’t just a nod to the initial series, where the uptight Justin often dealt with his younger sister’s wit and street smarts, but it also echoes the fourth season of “Wizards of Waverly Place“, where Justin assumed the task of instructing a band of wayward wizard apprentices.
However, David Henrie’s role as a series regular and Selena Gomez’s appearance as a guest star and executive producer is not the only link this show has to Disney Channel’s past. Notably, Raven Symoné from “That’s So Raven” and “Raven’s Home,” and Danielle Fishel from “Girl Meets World” are planning to direct episodes of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” on the Disney Channel.
Both Raven-Symoné and Danielle Fishel took on the director’s role for episodes in the sequel series of their individual Disney Channel shows that they had starred in previously.
In the upcoming series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, David DeLuise, known for his role as Jerry Russo in the original show, is set to make a comeback. It’s likely that we might see more appearances by the cast from the original Wizards of Waverly Place, including Jake T. Austin (Max Russo), Jennifer Stone (Harper Finkle), and Maria Canals-Barrera (Theresa Russo).
In the movie “The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex,” which was released a year following the end of the series, many of the original actors returned to portray their characters from “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
The hit Disney Channel series, Wizards of Waverly Place, was incredibly successful and well-loved by many. It’s going to be thrilling to see how the new spin-off, titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, measures up to its predecessor’s legacy.
