As a long-time fan of professional wrestling, I must say that William Regal‘s journey has been nothing short of captivating. His ability to seamlessly transition between in-ring action and behind-the-scenes roles demonstrates an unparalleled level of versatility and dedication to the sport we all love.
In January of 2023, William Regal came back to WWE following his brief stint with AEW, which ended in early 2022. Shortly after parting ways with WWE, Regal joined AEW a few months later at the Revolution event, where he had a confrontation with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley following their match.
After Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson in a one-on-one fight, Regal stepped in following their ongoing skirmish. In the heat of the moment, he entered the ring and gave both combatants a sharp slap. This altercation marked the start of Regal’s group within AEW, which came to be known as the Blackpool Combat Club. Alongside Moxley and Danielson, this faction eventually grew to include Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli.

In his time with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Regal mainly collaborated with the Blackpool Combat Club. After a short stint, he departed AEW in December 2022. Then, in January 2023, he rejoined WWE as the Vice President of Global Talent Development.
Tony Khan, the head of AEW, shared that William Regal decided not to renew his contract with AEW so he could spend more quality time with his son Charlie Dempsey who wrestles in NXT. This decision has led some people to wonder if Regal’s short tenure in AEW was intended to weaken WWE’s rival competition.
William Regal sets the record straight on AEW controversy
WWE icon William Regal has spoken out regarding the conjecture surrounding his motives while with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He addressed whispers of him departing AEW in a questionable manner, as well as denying allegations that he was attempting to sabotage rival organizations.
In a social media post, Regal shared that he joined AEW upon Bryan Danielson’s request. He clarified his intentions, saying he aimed to assist, and revealed that he agreed to put in extensive hours of training without attending any production meetings or inquiring about the contracts of other individuals.
For your information: While it may align with some people’s objectives and numerous employees from AEW vouch for me, my decision to join AEW was prompted by Bryan Danielson’s request. I challenge you to find someone who can contradict this. I was at AEW from 10 am to 6:15 pm (EST)…

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, there was quite a stir when it came to William Regal and CM Punk. Seems like Punk didn’t wanna shake hands with Regal after his debut on AEW, claiming he just didn’t jive with him. The reason? He saw Regal as one of Triple H’s cronies, which wasn’t exactly a friendship he was keen on. This bit of drama unfolded post their departures from AEW.
Despite making his position about his AEW involvement clear, William Regal has been seen back with WWE after his return. Just recently, on the September 13, 2024 episode of SmackDown, he was noticed among the spectators.
