Will the Alys/Aemond mystery be answered in House of the Dragon Season 2?

As a dedicated fan and avid gamer of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, I have spent countless hours immersed in the complex and intriguing world of Westeros. The upcoming “House of the Dragon,” based on Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” holds great promise for providing definitive answers to long-standing questions. One such mystery that has intrigued me is the enigma surrounding Alys Rivers and Aemond Targaryen.

The HBO show “House of the Dragon” might provide clear responses on certain matters instead of the book “Fire & Blood.” Among these potential clarifications, could one possibly concern the enigma surrounding Alys and Aemond?

If you’ve read the book, you’re aware that Daemon departs from Harrenhal, and later, Aemond arrives there following Rhaenyra’s conquest of King’s Landing. Although Aemond orders executions at Harrenhal, he spares the life of Alys Rivers. Instead, they begin a romantic involvement.

The reality of their romantic relationship is not open to question. However, there is disagreement regarding the child Alys gave birth to following Aemond’s demise.

Does Alys give birth to Aemond’s legitimate son?

Following Aemond’s passing, Alys asserts that they had clandestine wedding vows exchanged. Consequently, the child she bears is truly Aemond’s offspring, thereby establishing him as a legitimate claimant to the Iron Throne.

After Aegon’s passing, the Greens refused to acknowledge him as their king. Aegon himself disapproved of Rhaenyra’s children inheriting the Iron Throne, but since Aegon was the last living heir, he was the one who had to assume the role.

Yet, maybe he isn’t. Alys may have another heir. An heir that surely the Greens would want.

This mystery likely isn’t going to be solved in House of the Dragon Season 2

As someone who has been following the intricacies of “Game of Thrones” since its early seasons, I must confess that my suspicions are running high, but my hopes are dwindling. With only two episodes left in this current season, I find myself bracing for an ending that leaves more questions unanswered than resolved.

After Daemon’s ability to depart from Harrenhal is finally achieved, Aemond steps in to assume his role there instead. Consequently, it’s reasonable to expect that most, if not all, of the scenes involving Aemond and Alys will unfold in “House of the Dragon.” This is predicted to occur during the third season.

As a gamer, I’m absolutely convinced that Alys gave birth to Aemond’s child. The doubt lies in the legitimacy of their union. I strongly suspect that their secret marriage is not widely believed, which could explain why the Greens didn’t consider this boy as a potential heir to the Iron Throne following Aegon.
