Will Smith’s Farts Cleared Out Men in Black Set ‘For About 3 Hours’

As a long-time admirer of Will Smith’s acting prowess and charm, I must confess that this latest anecdote about him has me in stitches! It seems that even off-screen, he manages to leave quite an impression – or should I say, scent?

In addition to being a renowned global actor, as suggested by filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld, Will Smith is also recognized for something beyond his acting prowess.

During an interview on Kelly Ripa’s podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera” (as reported by Entertainment Weekly), director Sonnenfeld playfully shared a story from the set of the 1997 blockbuster film “Men in Black”. He reminisced humorously about Will Smith’s flatulence, which he described as being legendary.

Sonnenfeld vividly remembered an instance during the movie’s production, where both Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were acting out a scene within the film’s high-tech car.

What did Barry Sonnenfeld say about Will Smith’s farts?

Sonnenfeld explained, “We’ll need a wheeled ladder reminiscent of the way we used to board planes from the tarmac in the old days. We’ll lift it up, place it inside whatever structure, then flip it over. Once set up, we’re ready to film. These structures are completely sealed and locked to prevent any accidental opening. As I call ‘Action,’ Will Smith exclaims, ‘Oh dear Lord. I’m sorry, Tommy. I’m sorry, Baz. Bring the ladder!’

According to the director, Jones handled the situation gracefully and it seemed like the crew was unaware of the circumstances upon their arrival. Sonnenfeld explained, “You could hear Tommy saying, ‘That’s all right, Will. No problem, Will. Don’t worry, Will,'” implying confusion about the situation. As the ladder approached, Jones extended his leg, quickly descending the stairs.

As reported by Sonnenfeld, the problem arose because Smith passed gas within the car, making the situation quite unbearable for approximately 3 hours, necessitating clearing the space around it. Regardless of this incident, Sonnenfeld continues to hold a great deal of affection towards the actor.

Director Sonnenfeld stated, “Will Smith is flatulent. Some people are, and it’s not pleasant to be in a tiny, air-tight space with a Will Smith flatulence. You wouldn’t even want to sit next to him at the Disney ranch… He’s a wonderful individual. Just, he’s prone to passing gas.
