Will Smith Roast Could Be Netflix’s Next Live Comedy Special

Will Smith has reportedly been approached about doing a Netflix roast live comedy special.

In May 2023, Netflix aired “The Roast of Tom Brady,” with Kevin Hart as the host. This live comedy event featured comedians, celebrities, and sports figures like Nikki Glaser, Randy Moss, Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, and others, who took turns making jokes and jabs at the retired football player, Tom Brady.

Is a Netflix roast with Will Smith really happening?

As per a recent update from Puck, Smith is among a select group whom Netflix has reached out to for a sequel to The Roast of Tom Brady, and, as reported by their sources, Smith has not yet turned down the proposal.

The article suggests that since the highly controlled celebrity is unlikely to endure jokes from Nikki Glaser about The Slap, Jada, his family, and other related matters, this is more likely an unofficial proposal – nothing formal has been presented to his agency or management yet. However, if it were to happen, considering the massive viewership the Brady roast garnered (22 million views in its initial months, available only in the U.S.), Smith’s appearance could be even larger, and such an unconventional move might strike a chord with audiences.

Information about Smith’s involvement in the upcoming project, as reported by Puck, has not yet been confirmed officially by either Smith’s publicist or Netflix. Therefore, it’s advisable to approach this news with some skepticism.

In the latest film released last year, Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), Smith played Mike Lowrey once again, alongside Martin Lawrence’s character Marcus Burnett for the fourth installment. Currently, there are several other productions in progress, such as a follow-up to I Am Legend from 2007, a science fiction film by Sony Pictures called Resistor, and more. However, no official release dates have been set for these projects yet.

On March 28, 2025, his fifth studio album, known as “Based on a True Story,” will be made available to the public via Slang Music.
