As a gamer who has grown up with the rhythm and rhymes of hip hop pulsating through my speakers, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming biopic series focusing on iconic artists, starting with Queen Latifah. Her journey from the streets of New Jersey to Hollywood stardom is as inspiring as her music itself.
A series of movies centered around influential hip hop icons is slated for production, starting with a biographical film about Queen Latifah. Will Smith is among those who will be producing this film.
Three entertainment companies – Flavor Unit Entertainment, Westbrook Studios, and Jesse Collins Entertainment – are joining forces to create a collection of hip-hop biographical series. Queen Latifah, in collaboration with Shakim Compere for Flavor Unit Entertainment, will produce the biopic about her own life. On the other hand, Smith and Miguel Melendez will be responsible for producing under Westbrook Studios.
In the meantime, Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon are set to produce this upcoming project through Jesse Collins Entertainment, a company known for producing music biopic shows like “The New Edition Story” and “The Bobby Brown Story.” Additionally, Charlie Mack will contribute as a producer on this project too.
What did Queen Latifah say about her planned biopic?
Known for her performances in numerous films and TV series, the Oscar-nominated actress has also found significant influence in the hip hop world, playing a crucial role in molding her into the artist she currently is.
In their statement, Queen Latifah and the Flavor Unit Entertainment compère expressed that we’ve grown within this field as a team, with Hip Hop playing a vital role in shaping each one of us. The influence of Hip Hop transcends music and has left an indelible mark on our culture and society at large. It is truly a wish come true to collaborate with friends and associates who not only share the same experiences, but can articulate the narratives that served as the soundtrack to our lives.
Known for her timeless hits, Queen Latifah has shared many memorable songs such as “Black Hand Side,” “Another Day,” “UNITY,” “Ladies First,” and “Court is in Session” (along with several others).
In terms of acting, the rapper has appeared in various films such as Set it Off, Chicago, Beauty Shop, Last Holiday, The Secret Life of Bees, Hairspray, Just Wright, Bessie, Girls Trip, Hustle, and numerous others.
