Recently, Will Forte criticized Warner Bros. for their contentious choice to halt production on the Looney Tunes comedy “Coyote vs. Acme“, stating that the film deserved far more recognition than what it ultimately received.
What did Will Forte say about Coyote vs. Acme’s shelving?
In a recent conversation with MovieWeb, Forte openly expressed his strong disapproval towards the decision to store the film he appeared in for a $30 million tax reduction.
In a statement, Forte expressed his disappointment by saying, “I found it utterly disappointing.” He went on to praise the movie, stating that it deserved far more recognition than it received. However, he couldn’t explain why the decision was made not to release it, but it infuriates him greatly.
Further along, Forte expressed his ongoing delight in discussing the film due to his desire for it not to be overlooked. Although he’s grateful it was produced, he admitted that it was painful not to share with audiences the film they put so much effort into bringing out.
Forte expressed gratitude for the question, as he enjoys discussing the movie due to the significant impact [Warner Bros.] had on it. He acknowledged their role in allowing them to create it, but emphasized that they should not withhold a project that we care about deeply. If the outcome wasn’t impressive, he could understand, but he believes it is excellent. He hopes that at some point, people will get a chance to see it and share his pride in it.
The movie titled “Coyote vs. Acme,” directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch (with a story penned down by Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater), was filmed in February 2022. Initially scheduled for a theatrical release on July 21, 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to postpone the film’s release date in April 2022.
In November of 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to postpone releasing a film, which would result in a $30 million tax deduction, a move that has been met with controversy. This tactic is similar to one the studio employed for films like Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt.
After facing significant criticism from the public, Warner Bros. Discovery chose to allow the creators of Coyote vs. Acme’s movie to shop their project to other film studios. Nevertheless, Warner Bros. Discovery turned down all offers for the film, and it was never released.
