Wicked: Part Two Release Date Moved Up for Ariana Grande Musical

As a die-hard fan of musicals and all things Oz, I must say that the news about the release date change for “Wicked: Part Two” has me absolutely spellbound! Having grown up watching the original Wizard of Oz and later falling in love with the stage production of Wicked, I can’t help but feel a sense of pure enchantment knowing that we’ll be getting another dose of this magical world even sooner than expected.

Wicked: Part Two’s release date has been bumped up.

On November 22, 2024, the movie “Wicked: Part One,” formerly known as “Wicked,” will premiere in U.S. cinemas. This film, directed by Jon M. Chu, features Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the leading roles and follows the first half of the beloved musical’s storyline, which shares the same name.

When is Wicked: Part Two’s new release date?

As a die-hard “Wicked” fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for Part Two since forever! Initially, it was set to release on November 26, 2025. But guess what? Good news is coming our way! According to Deadline, the movie’s debut has been moved up a bit and we’ll now be able to watch it from November 21, 2025! Can’t wait!

Initially, Universal Pictures planned to release a movie similar to the first Wicked on November 27, 2024. However, to avoid clashing with Moana 2’s premiere on the same date, they decided to move the release of Wicked forward, scheduling it for the same day as Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II.

Wicked: Part Two was originally going to come out the same day as Disney’s Zootopia 2.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve found myself in the magical world of “Wicked,” playing Elphaba opposite Grande’s Galinda. The stellar cast includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, and Peter Dinklage as Doctor Dillamond. Can’t wait to see this enchanting adaptation unfold on screen!

In this movie adaptation of “Wicked,” we find Cynthia Erivo (known for “Harriet” and Broadway’s “The Color Purple”) portraying Elphaba, a young woman with unique green skin who is yet to realize her true power. Ariana Grande, a Grammy-winning pop sensation, takes on the role of Glinda, a popular girl born into privilege who is still learning about her heart. Their paths cross at Shiz University in Oz, leading to an unexpected bond. After an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their friendship faces a turning point, sending them down separate paths. As Glinda becomes increasingly enamored by power, Elphaba remains steadfast in her beliefs and self-expression, which will lead to unforeseen and shocking events in her life. Their adventures in Oz ultimately help them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West.
