Jonathan Bailey is teasing a “heavier and more complicated” world in Wicked: For Good.
In U.S. theaters in November 2024, Bailey portrayed Fiyero Tigelaar in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked production. He’ll be reprising that role again in the upcoming sequel, titled Wicked: For Good, slated for release this fall.
During an interview with Indiewire, Bailey offered a hint about what viewers of the original film might find intriguing in Wicked: For Good: “In the conversation, I’ll give you a taste of what fans of the initial movie may discover in our upcoming production.
What did Jonathan Bailey say about Wicked: For Good?
Bailey expressed, “I believe we have a clearer understanding of the world and its operations [at present]. I’m genuinely thrilled about the change in tone. As the world becomes denser and more intricate, there’s an intense feeling of hope, joy, resilience, and all the wonderful aspects that we associate with Elphaba’s journey that I can hardly wait for.
Hey there! As a gaming enthusiast and music lover, I can’t help but share my excitement about the sneak peeks of the musical numbers from Wicked: For Good. One number that has me on the edge of my seat is “As Long As You’re Mine.” I can barely contain my anticipation for fans to catch a glimpse of it!
Back when I was pedaling my bike towards meeting Jon Chu (years ago), ‘As Long as You’re Mine’ was blasting in my ears, and it’s a tune that’s always held a special place in my heart. I can hardly wait to see how it unfolds now! It’s simply fantastic.
Recalling his first experience of watching the Wicked musical as a child, Bailey said, “Going to see Wicked with loved ones on its opening day here made me realize that this story revolves around local community initiatives. Art has a way of inspiring us at various stages of life and igniting passions within us. The saddest part is when these sparks are left unattended. I’m eternally thankful for Fiyero and Wicked, as they rekindled my dancing passion in me, which is truly wonderful.
