Wicked Director Teases Dorothy’s Inclusion in Part Two

As a die-hard fan of the Wicked musical and the magical world of Oz, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel, Wicked: Part Two! The prospect of Dorothy joining the cast is simply enchanting, and I am eagerly awaiting more details.

In a recent interview, the talented filmmaker Jon M. Chu hinted at the prospect of Dorothy potentially making an appearance in the forthcoming sequel to “Wicked”, titled “Wicked: Part Two“.

What did Jon M. Chu say about Dorothy’s inclusion in Wicked: Part Two?

During a conversation with Variety after the movie’s premiere, Chu was inquired if Dorothy, the renowned character from The Wizard of Oz, would be featured in the sequel’s storyline, since she is present in the stage musical that serves as the films’ foundation.

While Chu wouldn’t give away any exact information, he did note it’s almost inevitable.

In the series, Dorothy appears and plays a role that will inevitably intersect with others. However, I can’t confirm whether she’s a character in the second movie or not. A part of me hopes that each viewer’s interpretation of Dorothy remains personal. Yet, there are scenes where Dorothy and other characters interact, hinting at some connection. The specifics will be explored further in Part Two.

In the second half of the Wicked musical, Dorothy makes an appearance, and the storyline merges with that of The Wizard of Oz. This is consistent with Gregory Maguire’s novel as well. However, it remains uncertain if she will be present in future productions, but there’s been much speculation about potential actresses for the role.

The movies known as “Wicked” were crafted under the guidance of director Jon M. Chu, who adapted the script from Winnie Holzman, the author of the musical’s book. It is an adaptation derived from Stephen Maguire’s top-selling novel and the stage musical that won a Tony Award.

In this movie, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo take the forefront roles, portraying Galinda Upland and Elphaba Thropp respectively. The supporting cast includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Peter Dinklage as Doctor Dillamond, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, Ethan Slater as Boq, and others.

“This movie explores an unheard tale about the witches of Oz, Elphaba, a misunderstood green-skinned girl with hidden powers, and Glinda, a privileged, ambitious young woman. They form an unusual bond as students at Shiz University in Oz’s magical realm. Their lives intertwine after meeting The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, leading them down contrasting paths. Glinda becomes entangled in power, while Elphaba remains steadfast in her convictions, leading to surprising and dramatic outcomes. In the end, their journey through Oz will lead them to fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the infamous Wicked Witch of the West.
