Why you are missing out if you aren’t watching The Walking Dead spinoffs

As a die-hard fan of The Walking Dead (TWD) who has lived through the highs and lows of its storyline, I can confidently say that if you aren’t watching the spinoffs, you’re missing out on some truly captivating content.

The TV show “The Walking Dead” was originally based on the comics written by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Following its success, numerous spin-off series set in the same universe were produced, showcasing various locations and introducing fresh characters. After the main series ended in 2022, some fans have chosen not to watch these spin-offs. If you’re one of those “Walking Dead” viewers skipping the spin-offs, I believe you’re missing out on some great content.

Generally speaking, a significant number of fans believe that the initial seasons of “The Walking Dead” are superior. The primary reason for this is that the compact cast enabled the creators to concentrate more on character-centric narratives. As the show progressed, the cast grew larger, which made it challenging to maintain the focus on the elements that initially attracted most viewers – the tales of the survivors.

Viewership of The Walking Dead experienced a significant decrease following the demise of characters Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). The graphic nature of their deaths left some fans uncomfortable, and the narrative seemed to falter for several seasons. However, it managed to regain its footing in the later seasons.

Starting from 2015, AMC has introduced six different spinoffs of “The Walking Dead”. These spinoffs vary, with some being limited series while others continue on. Each one shares a connection with the initial show in some form or another.

The Walking Dead spinoffs feature crossover characters

Fear the Walking Dead,” initially launched five years following the debut of its parent show, serves as a spin-off and companion series. Set on the West Coast, it delves into the early days of the zombie apocalypse, offering an intriguing perspective on how survivors adapted to the chaos that ensued from such a cataclysmic event. The first three seasons are compelling television.

In the world of The Walking Dead, Fear TWD was the initial spinoff to introduce characters from the primary series. Morgan Jones (played by Lennie James) was among the first, followed by Dwight (Austin Amelio) and his spouse Sherry (Christine Evangelista). This unexpected turn in The Walking Dead Universe added depth to each character who crossed over.

The TV show titled ‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’ was a two-part limited series that offered extensive insights into the CRM (Civic Republic Military). This information continued into another series called ‘The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’, which focused on the emotional reunion between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Notably, Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) was a prominent character in both of these series.

The Walking Dead spinoffs are set in other locations

The Walking Dead: City of Walkers

In season 2 of “The Walking Dead,” Daryl Dixon, portrayed by Norman Reedus, along with Carol (Melissa McBride), were led to France. This journey allowed viewers to admire the beautiful landscapes of Paris and other regions, while also gaining insights into how different parts of the world had coped after the outbreak.

The newly discovered places are awe-inspiring and thrilling to explore, but what really sets this apart is the ongoing tales of six cherished characters initially introduced in the primary series, including Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live.

Tales of the Walking Dead told six separate stories

The six-part series titled “Tales of the Walking Dead” offers a diverse perspective on life post-outbreak in various regions across the United States, even venturing into episodes set 30 years after the initial outbreak. This spinoff of “The Walking Dead Universe” has attracted an impressive roster of talented actors such as Anthony Edwards, Poppy Liu, Olivia Munn, Terry Crews, Jessie T. Usher, Danny Ramirez, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, and many more.

Although not all spin-offs within The Walking Dead Universe may appeal to everyone, each one contributes uniquely to the larger storyline. I strongly recommend giving them a try if you haven’t already.
