Production on Apple TV+’s upcoming comedy series “Brothers,” starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, has been temporarily halted. The series, inspired by their real-life friendship, was almost finished filming before the sudden pause. As creative adjustments are made behind the scenes, the show’s release date is now uncertain, leaving fans eagerly waiting for its highly anticipated premiere.
Apple pauses Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey show to find new showrunner
Based on Deadline and Variety news, the production for the series titled “Brothers” stopped shooting in Austin, Texas following the completion of eight out of ten episodes. The team appears to have dismissed the actors, which includes Holland Taylor and Brittany Ishibashi, from set.
After the showrunner David West Read left due to creative differences regarding the finale of the season, there will be a temporary halt in production. Although Apple and Skydance Television haven’t made an official announcement, it seems that this shift in leadership is intended to help clarify the show’s artistic vision.
Experienced writer-producer Lee Eisenberg is in talks to assume the role of the show’s lead director. Should he be appointed, he would be responsible for managing the last two episodes and organizing any necessary re-filming if required. Lee Eisenberg’s previous projects encompass Jury Duty, Little America, and Lessons in Chemistry.
2023 saw Apple introduce a comedy series titled “Brothers,” based on the true-life friendship of Harrelson and McConaughey. The show centers around fictional personas of these actors, who strive to coexist on McConaughey’s Texas ranch with their respective families portrayed by Oona Yaffe, Ella Grace Helton, Nolan Almeida, Noah Carganilla, and Highdee Kuan.
Skydance Television is behind the production of the series airing on Apple TV+. Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Bill Bost, Jeremy Plager, and Jason Winer are the main producers for this project. They are overseeing the production, with Winer also directing several episodes. The team has not yet determined a date to resume production, as Jesse Eisenberg is currently revising the remaining content before filming can continue.
The production delay will likely push the show’s release beyond its originally expected timeline.
