Social media personality Marlena Velez, recognized for her fashion and interior design content on TikTok, has recently been taken into custody, leaving numerous followers perplexed. Naturally, they are inquisitive about the circumstances leading to her arrest. Could she have broken a law? Was there any rule infringement on her part?

TikTok influencer Marlena Velez arrested for alleged shoplifting
On Wednesday, November 21, 2024, Marlena Velez was apprehended due to accusations of shoplifting. These allegations were linked to a prior retail theft incident at Target, situated at 1890 NE Pine Island Road in Cape Coral, as stated by the Cape Coral Police Department.
Based on the information provided, it appears that on October 30, 2024, a woman entered Target store and selected several discounted items without scanning their actual barcodes. Instead, she used fake barcodes to secure lower prices for these items at the checkout counter.
It was found out that someone took 16 assorted household items and garments. Upon reviewing Target’s surveillance footage, the police determined that merchandise valued at approximately $500.32 had been taken from the store.
Following acquisition of her image, Cape Coral Police Department shared it on their Facebook and Instagram profiles in order to aid identification. In the photograph, she seemed to be approximately 20-35 years old. She had long black hair, was wearing a tan shirt, tan pants, and glasses. Subsequently, an anonymous individual contacted Cape Coral Police and positively identified the woman as Marlena Velez. Additionally, this caller disclosed Velez’s official Instagram account to the police department.
The Cape Coral Police Department later scrutinized Velez’s TikTok profile, where they found a since-removed video uploaded on October 30th showing her preparing to go to Target. In this video, she was evidently wearing the same outfit and glasses as the woman in the earlier shared photo by police. Moreover, she was observed purchasing items such as a Stanley mug and a mini cosmetics bag.
Velez was later isolated by Cape Coral Police Department and arrested on the following charges:
- 1 count in violation of F.S.S. 812.014(3a)
- Petit theft more than $100 and less than $750.
Velez boasts a significant record of criminal activity. Back in 2019, she was apprehended for stealing her friend Amanda Santana’s vehicle and subsequently colliding it into a ditch. In an interview with NBC2-Fort Myers, Florida, Santana validated this incident.
