It’s tough… We managed to create a successful TV show that viewers adored.” He also called out Netflix, asking them to think about continuing the series, stating, “We’d be thrilled if given another chance to entertain.

Initially, the show was halted following its sixth season in May 2023, even though it enjoyed high viewership ratings. The primary reason for this decision wasn’t the low ratings, but rather financial issues within the industry, as explained by executive producer Shawn Ryan to The Hollywood Reporter. He referred to these difficulties as “the economics of the business.”

Initially, a licensing dispute between Sony Pictures TV and CBS caused the cancellation, but eventually, both parties reached an agreement for a shorter 13-episode season, making it possible for Season 7 to continue.

In 2024, S.W.A.T. was renewed by CBS for a eighth season, thanks to its strong viewership, consistently drawing over 8 million viewers per episode.
