As a die-hard fan of PewDiePie since his humble beginnings, I must say that this latest twist in his saga with Twitch left me scratching my head more than one of MarzTree’s infamous puzzles. It seems the streaming giant just can’t seem to decide whether they want him on their platform or not.
Fans of YouTube star Felix Kjellberg (also known as PewDiePie) were recently left baffled when he was temporarily banned from live-streaming site Twitch. This isn’t the first time PewDiePie has encountered such a restriction on this platform. What particularly piqued the interest of his followers was the mysterious reason for the ban.
Here’s a breakdown of why PewDiePie was suspended, even though he didn’t initially post the controversial content on the platform.
PewDiePie gets banned from Twitch
On October 3, 2024, it appeared that PewDiePie’s Twitch account had been temporarily banned based on reports by GamingBible. This ban was swiftly lifted after just 14 minutes and 26 seconds, as confirmed by StreamerBans on Twitter.
Furthermore, the ban on Twitch led numerous fans to voice their disapproval towards the platform, as PewDiePie has not streamed there since 2023. According to reports, PewDiePie assigned his account ownership to another creator, which explains why it continues to showcase his old YouTube videos. This leads us to speculate that he was banned for violating the rules against impersonation.
In September 2024, the revised rules concerning impersonation clearly state that it’s a “malicious act undermining trust” on our streaming platform. These rules further emphasize that creating content to mimic an individual or organization is strictly forbidden. This ban also applies to replicating accounts of Twitch staff members and well-known personalities.
Moreover, Twitch hasn’t given a definitive answer about the ongoing ban. Since January 2020, PewDiePie has taken a break from streaming on Twitch. However, he occasionally posts videos on YouTube. Despite this, you might have noticed that he hasn’t resumed his popular video game streams. Back in May 2023, PewDiePie experienced a ban on Twitch, an incident he addressed in a YouTube video. The specific cause of that ban is still unclear to us.
