As a seasoned gamer who has seen his fair share of twists and turns in the gaming world, I must say that the recasting of Calvin in Virgin River Season 6 has left me as puzzled as trying to decipher an ancient cryptic map. The lack of official word on the reason behind this change is akin to a game developer releasing a patch without a changelog – mysterious and slightly frustrating.
The sixth season of “Virgin River” has sparked curiosity since its debut, continuing the tumultuous love tale between Melinda “Mel” Monroe and Jack Sheridan. In addition to its captivating plotline, another element that has fans on edge is the change in the character portraying Calvin, previously played by David Cubitt. Therefore, one may wonder: what led to Calvin’s recasting in “Virgin River” Season 6?
Here is everything you need to know about this development in the romantic drama series.
Why Virgin River Season 6 recast David Cubitt’s Calvin with Josh Blacker
I’m excited about the casting change in Virgin River Season 6, but I haven’t found any official word yet on why David Cubitt won’t be reprising his role as Jack Sheridan and Josh Blacker will take over instead. I can only speculate for now!
In Season 6, it was Josh Blacker, renowned from The Wall and Elysium, who temporarily stepped into the role of Calvin. This change, spanning only two episodes, left viewers puzzled as neither the production team nor Blacker provided any clarification regarding this sudden shift. There’s speculation that David Cubitt’s scheduling conflicts could have been the cause for this recasting.
In Virgin River, Calvin plays a contrasting character to the primary figures, Mel and Jack. He initially appears as a menacing gang leader who stirs up trouble for the townsfolk. He’s the brains behind the local drug trafficking operation, manipulating conflicts like the one between Jack and his friend Brady. Moreover, he exploits the situation by persuading Brady to participate in his illicit cannabis business.
In Season 4, the tension escalates as it appears Calvin has perished in an explosion on his boat. Yet, shockingly, he managed to survive the catastrophic blast. Later, he successfully clears his name by assisting the police. It’s also disclosed that he is Charmaine’s children’s father. In Season 6, Charmaine wins a legal fight against Calvin for custody of their twins. Enraged, Calvin accuses Jack and becomes determined to reclaim his kids at any cost.
By the finale of Season 6, it’s hinted that Charmaine and her children mysteriously vanished, leaving a cloud of suspicion hanging over Calvin. I can’t wait to see where his character develops as Virgin River has been greenlit for Season 7!
