Why Twisters’ Kiss Ending Was Cut From Final Version of Glen Powell Movie

As a dedicated gamer and moviegoer with a deep appreciation for well-crafted stories, I was both intrigued and disappointed by the ending of Twisters. The chemistry between Glen Powell‘s Tyler Owens and Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Kate Carter was palpable throughout the film, making their non-kiss ending all the more perplexing.

Glen Powell, Lee Isaac Chung, and Daisy Edgar-Jones share insights behind the decision for their characters, Tyler Owens and Kate Carter, not to share a kiss in the finale of “Twisters”.

Why Twisters’ Kiss Ending Was Cut From Final Version of Glen Powell Movie

In U.S. cinemas on July 19, 2024, the film Twisters was debuted. Towards the end, Tyler Owens, portrayed by Powell, pursues Kate Carter, played by Edgar-Jones, through an airport. Although their romantic connection is strongly suggested, they don’t share a kiss in the finale.

I came across a fascinating video on X, which you can check out below. In this clip, there’s an intriguing revelation about the filming of a specific scene between Powell and Edgar-Jones. Apparently, they did indeed share an on-screen kiss during production. However, sadly for us fans, this tender moment was ultimately left out of the movie’s final edit.

WHY DID THEY CUT THE KISS

Why didn’t the kiss ending make it into the final cut of Twisters?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Powell expressed some annoyance over the absence of the kiss scene in the film. He added humor by quipping, “Perhaps it’s just my acting skills that didn’t make the cut.”

Director Lee Isaac Chung expressed his belief that today’s audiences have different preferences regarding on-screen kisses. He attempted to include one in his film but faced strong reactions. An alternative scene without a kiss was filmed on the same day, which Chung now favors as the superior ending. Those who desire a kiss can assume the characters will eventually do so. By concluding in this manner, Chung aims to bring a sense of resolution and joy to the story.

Edgar-Jones commented, “It was a pleasant change not to conclude with the repetitive rhythm, as the finale brought together two people equally matched in their affection, intellect, and comprehension of weather.”

I totally agree with Chung’s perspective. It would be a shame if the story ended with just a kiss between Kate and her love interest. Instead, it’s more satisfying to imagine Kate continuing her journey with a smile on her face.

Twisters is now playing in theaters.
