Why There a #BoycottDunkinDonuts Trending?: What did Dunkin Say to Rumble?

As a long-time supporter of freedom of speech and fair business practices, I find myself deeply troubled by the recent call to boycott Dunkin Donuts. Having grown up with their delicious donuts and coffee as a staple in my morning routine, it’s disheartening to see such a beloved brand seemingly taking sides in the ongoing cultural wars.

A number of users on the now-known platform X (previously Twitter) are demanding a #BoycottDunkinDonuts, leaving others puzzled about the connection to Rumble. The call for boycotting Dunkin is not an isolated incident among users uniting against a brand. However, many tweets lack clarity, making it difficult to understand the issue at hand. To help alleviate any future confusion, we’ve done some research so you can stay informed when you see someone hinting at abandoning their favorite coffee and doughnut chain.

Why are people calling for a Dunkin Donuts Boycott?

The growing demand to avoid Dunkin Donuts is gaining traction due to their advertising strategies. Notably, Chris Pavlovski, creator of Rumble video platform, disclosed that Dunkin Donuts requested Rumble to exclude right-wing commentator Steven Crowder from their content and distance themselves from right-wing culture in order to receive ad funding.

Pavlovski countered Dunkin’s statement by assuring, “Absolutely not! We don’t practice discrimination. Every culture is invited and welcomed here at Rumble.”

In the past, Steven Crowder has found himself in contentious situations. Due to repeated demonetization and suspensions on YouTube, he ultimately transferred his channel to Rumble permanently. Although Rumble has a significantly smaller audience compared to YouTube, Crowder still attracts hundreds of thousands of views per live stream and maintains his position as an influential right-wing commentator.

In today’s digital world, there is a continuous struggle among advertisers, content providers, and content makers regarding their rights and responsibilities. Some people who back the boycott claim that Dunkin’s perceived standpoint violates freedom of expression. On the other hand, others see it as a prudent move to safeguard the company’s reputation by those involved in the business decision-making process.

As a long-time observer of the media landscape, I can’t help but notice how deeply entrenched political ideologies have become within it. Over the years, I’ve seen content creators and platforms tailor their offerings to specific audience segments, often reflecting their own ideological leanings. This phenomenon has only grown more pronounced in recent times.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m curious about the potential effects on Dunkin’s business and ad strategies over time, should this boycott indeed have an impact. Time will tell!
