Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe have pointed out that The Thing, in the latest Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, appears to speak more smoothly than previously depicted. This is surprising because Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, was subjected to intense cosmic radiation during a space voyage, which transformed him into a superhero with a rock-like appearance. Previous movies portrayed his human-turned-rock persona with a gravelly voice, but the forthcoming film seems to present a more humanized version, sparking curiosity among viewers about the reason behind this change.
Let’s find out the details here.
Why does The Thing have a human-like voice in Fantastic Four: First Steps?
It seems Marvel aims to give The Thing a more relatable character by giving him a human-like voice from within. Despite his rough appearance not being of his own making, it has often led others to view him as a monster. However, with a rocky exterior and a friendly human voice instead of a typical monster’s growl, he comes across as approachable, much like the other members of the Fantastic Four.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe often works to present their larger-than-life heroic characters in a relatable manner for the average viewer. A case in point is Mark Ruffalo’s character, Bruce Banner, who undergoes a transformation into the green Hulk following exposure to gamma radiation.
Initially, his monstrous fury brought chaos and fear to the city. But as his character undergoes significant transformations, he starts to be viewed as a hero instead. In addition to being part of the Avengers team, Banner strives to integrate both aspects of his personality, thereby making him more relatable in future Marvel Cinematic Universe stories.
In spite of his rugged exterior, he transformed into a character that audiences found more relatable within the storyline. There was no reluctance from people to engage with him. For instance, in Avengers: Endgame, a band of children approached the Hulk for a photograph, viewing him not as a monster but as the hero he truly represented.
In a similar manner, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be employing this strategy with The Thing. Previously, he encountered a terrible accident that changed him into an orange-hued being. His rough voice is now gone. This change enables his humanity to emerge more clearly as he delves deeper into his personal struggles and conflicts regarding his altered appearance.
