Why The Daily Show isn't new tonight (July 15) and won't be at the RNC convention this year

As a dedicated fan of The Daily Show, I am deeply saddened by the news that there won’t be a new episode tonight due to the recent shooting at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. This tragic event claimed the life of Corey Comperatore and left two others critically injured, while Trump himself only sustained minor injuries.

I’m deeply saddened by the senseless violence that occurred at the recent campaign rally of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. As a dedicated viewer of The Daily Show, I was looking forward to tonight’s episode, but the tragic shooting that claimed the life of Corey Comperatore and left two others critically injured has led to the program being canceled. It’s disheartening to see such events unfold in real life, especially when they disrupt our daily routines, like watching our favorite TV shows. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for the victims and their families. My thoughts are with them during this trying time. Let us all pray for peace and unity in these challenging times.

Trump endured a light wound after being hit by a stray bullet near his ear during an attack. Consequently, this incident is referred to as an assassination attempt attempt, and the FBI is currently probing the background of the deceased assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

In a regular presidential election year, The Daily Show usually covers both the Democratic and Republican national conventions with reporters on location, providing live updates and interviews with attendees. However, this year is different. The show has decided not to attend the event in Milwaukee where the Republicans are holding their convention. They have given two reasons: logistical challenges and the uncertain circumstances surrounding Milwaukee.

There wasn’t clarification on what those issues are or what the situation is that they’re referring to but it likely has to do with increased security and potentially sensitivity to the recent shooting. The Republican nominee nearly lost his life and while it’s The Daily Show‘s job to cover both sides of the aisle tensions are high at the moment. See the tweet from the show’s X account below:

As a dedicated fan of The Daily Show, I’m thrilled to hear that they’ll be back on air starting tomorrow, July 16, at 10 p.m. ET. Although I was looking forward to their coverage from the Milwaukee Democratic National Convention, I understand that they’ll now be filming from their NYC studio and rescheduling those events.

Topics expected for discussion include the causes behind the shooting incident and the Secret Service’s failure to identify Crooks as a potential threat to national security. Additionally, there will be debates on the history of political violence in the US and requests for more temperate language from political figures. Furthermore, it is crucial to refute the baseless theories suggesting the shooting was staged for political gain.
