Why Speak No Evil’s James McAvoy Didn’t Watch the Original Movie

As a seasoned moviegoer with a penchant for suspenseful horror films, I must admit that James McAvoy’s approach to the upcoming remake of Speak No Evil has piqued my interest. His decision to avoid watching the original Danish film before signing on to the project speaks volumes about his unique acting style and dedication to his craft.

James McAvoy will be one of the leading actors in the upcoming horror remake titled “Speak No Evil,” which is set for release in 2024. Interestingly, before agreeing to star in this version, McAvoy did not watch the original Danish film that was released in 2022.

Why Did James McAvoy Not Watch the Original Speak No Evil Before the Remake?

According to GamesRadar+’s interview, McAvoy admits that he’s glad he hasn’t watched the original version. If McAvoy had seen the Danish movie, there might have been no chance for him to play in the U.S. remake.

As a fan, I hadn’t caught a glimpse of the trailer nor seen the movie before, but I was aware of its existence. It’s fortunate that I remained uninitiated because I’m unsure if I would have taken on the role given the high standards set by the original actor. After all, I prefer not to measure myself against what someone else has achieved. So, the very next day after we wrapped up our production, I finally sat down and watched it.

In the story, McAvoy portrays Paddy, a British resident who, together with his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), extend an invitation to the American duo Ben (Scoot McNairy) and Louise Dalton (Mackenzie Davis) for a weekend retreat at their home. However, what initially appears as a delightful vacation unexpectedly transforms into a complex psychological horror.

In the production, Alix West Lefler portrays the role of Agnes, who is the daughter of Ben and Louise, whereas Dan Hough takes on the character of Ant, the son of Paddy and Ciara.

In a new take, James Watkins is responsible for writing and directing the movie titled “Speak No Evil,” which is a remake of the Danish film created by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup. Jason Blum and Paul Ritchie are the producers behind the American adaptation of this project.

Initial responses to Speak No Evil have been favorable, with critics commending McAvoy’s acting and labeling the movie as “completely outrageous.

Speak No Evil opens in theaters on September 13, 2024.
