Why didn’t Robin Mattson’s Heather Webber return to General Hospital?

In November 2022, following Alley Mills’ first appearance as Heather on General Hospital, Mattson explained on Facebook why Mills didn’t return to the popular daytime drama. She shared that she had just had knee surgery and was in the process of recuperating. Additionally, she was scheduled for a hip replacement operation at that time.

Mattson shared that it’s been wonderful to be missed by so many, as there has been much curiosity about my whereabouts. I wanted to let everyone know that I’ve been recuperating from knee surgery, and today I’m set to undergo hip replacement surgery,” she said. “Thank you all for your love and support! I eagerly anticipate a swift recovery! Warm regards, Robin.

For her performance, Mattson won the Soapy Award for Favorite Villainess in 1981 and 1983.

Previously, roles as Heather were handled by Georganne LaPiere, followed by a recasting where Mary O’Brien took over the part, before Mattson stepped into the role.

According to Soap Opera Digest, the actress portraying Heather Mills on General Hospital recently left the show this month. The publication hints that this may not be a permanent goodbye for the character, suggesting there’s a possibility that Mattson could return from retirement to reprise her role. At this point, however, no official confirmation has been made.
