As a long-time Outlander fan, I must say that my anticipation for Sam Heughan’s new series, The Couple Next Door, is reaching fever pitch! Having patiently waited through multiple seasons of Outlander and the tantalizing glimpses of Heughan in Grantchester, this latest offering feels like the cherry on top.
When Starz officially announced that they would acquire the series “The Couple Next Door” starring Sam Heughan, Outlander enthusiasts couldn’t contain their excitement as it marked the third Sam Heughan show set to air on the platform.
Starz initially informed us that the arrival was expected around 2024. Since then, there’s been no news, or as if crickets were chirping. That changed in the summer when we found out it would come during winter instead. However, it later switched from 2024 to “this winter,” and we all know that winter doesn’t begin until late December.
It appears that the series might not be released in December 2024 as initially planned, but rather in January 2024. This brings up the question of Starz’s plans or adjustments regarding the release date.
Starz will want the perfect timing for The Couple Next Door
The series doesn’t need to delay its broadcast due to the episodes being prepared. Instead, it has already been fully aired in the UK, on Channel 4 as early as November 2023. Therefore, there’s little justification left not to air the show, except for scheduling constraints.
As an ardent Outlander fan, I was eagerly anticipating Season 7B in 2024, a date we all had marked on our calendars. However, to my surprise and dismay, Starz decided to postpone its release to November this year. While it’s disappointing, I can understand the need for scheduling considerations and the desire to avoid an extended Droughtlander for the final season.
Speaking of “The Couple Next Door”, there was an idea to air Season 7B of “Outlander” in the summer of 2024, followed immediately by “The Couple Next Door”. It seems logical to continue the run of series starring Sam Heughan back-to-back. Why not take advantage of viewers who are already subscribed to Starz for “Outlander”?
It’s quite disheartening, given that this is a miniseries. Since there won’t be any follow-up series, the show doesn’t rely on viewer ratings to continue. At least, not as of now. The most plausible explanation for its scheduling seems to be that Starz, with its numerous other shows, has a lot on its plate.
The Couple Next Door will arrive on Starz “this winter.”
