As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more than my fair share of twists and turns in virtual worlds, I can’t help but feel a bit of deja vu when it comes to this Mark Robinson vs CNN saga. It seems like another level of political drama unfolding right before our eyes.
The Republican nominee for Governor of North Carolina, Mark Robinson, has initiated a substantial defamation lawsuit against CNN. This legal action stems from allegations made by CNN in a recent broadcast, allegations that Robinson firmly refutes.
So, let’s delve deep into the details about Robinson’s defamation case against CNN.

Mark Robinson, North Carolina governor, has filed a defamation lawsuit against CNN (via Reuters).
Robinson is pursuing a claim for at least $50 million in compensation due to a broadcast by the network in September. This report implicated Robinson in posting inflammatory and racially offensive content on an adult entertainment site more than ten years ago. Among other things, he referred to himself as a “black NAZI” and expressed approval for Adolf Hitler. As reported by CNN, these posts were said to have been made under the username “minisoldr,” and linked to Robinson through personal details.
In his court case, Robinson firmly disputed the allegations made by CNN, labeling their report as “irresponsibly untrue” and a “malicious smear.” He contends that the information used in the article was questionable, purportedly obtained from a data leak on the dark web, and that CNN published it despite having reservations about its authenticity. Robinson asserts that this report was aimed at undermining his campaign against Democratic competitor Josh Stein in the approaching November 5 election.
In a press meeting on Tuesday, Robinson referred to the legal action as a resistance to an instance he deemed “one of the most significant examples of political meddling in this state’s history.” He contended that CNN’s report was linked to a larger strategy aimed at undermining his campaign and stifling his conservative ideologies.
According to CNN’s report, there were mentions of posts attributed to Robinson containing inappropriate comments towards civil rights pioneers, transgender people, and even expressing support for the reinstatement of slavery. These accusations stemmed from screenshots and digital evidence that CNN claimed corresponded with Robinson’s online presence.
On the contrary, Robinson argues that he wasn’t given a fair chance to examine the evidence. His lawyers suspect that more parties might have been part of an alleged “orchestrated assault” according to AP News. CNN has yet to address the lawsuit.
Beyond CNN, the legal action also includes Louis Love Money as a co-defendant. In the past, he’s accused Robinson of frequently buying adult films in the 1990s and early 2000s from a store where the singer previously worked. Robinson has refuted these accusations, asserting that they are part of an attempt to sabotage his campaign. Money, on the other hand, has maintained his claims, insisting they are accurate.
