Why is Elon Musk Suing Advertisers? Twitter (X) Lawsuit Explained

As a seasoned observer of the tech world who’s seen my fair share of titanic clashes between industry giants, I must say that Elon Musk‘s latest move against Unilever, Mars, and other advertisers feels like a bold, albeit expected, step in his ongoing crusade to disrupt established norms.

Elon Musk, now the proprietor of X (previously Twitter), is encouraging other major social media platforms like X to take legal action against advertisers. His call comes after he accused several corporations such as Mars, Unilever, CVS Health, and others of wrongdoing. This move has sparked much discussion online, with many trying to understand Musk’s motive for this action.

So, let’s delve deep into why Musk filed a lawsuit against advertisers.

Why Elon Musk is suing advertisers, Unilever, and Mars?

As a passionate gamer, I’ve found myself in a unique situation. Companies like Unilever and Mars, known for their popular gaming accessories, have allegedly joined forces against my favorite game developer, X. After giving them the benefit of the doubt for two years, all I received was empty promises. Now, it seems we’re stepping into the battlefield. I’ve decided to take legal action, declaring, “We thought diplomacy would work, but all we got were hollow words. Now, it’s time to fight.”

We tried being nice for 2 years and got nothing but empty words.

Now, it is war.

As a devoted follower of Tesla’s journey, I can’t help but echo Elon Musk’s recent call to action. In a fresh post on X, he urged other companies facing systematic ad boycotts to stand up and fight back. He suggested filing a lawsuit, hinting at potential legal consequences under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The Guardian reports that these advertisers withheld ads worth billions from X ever since Musk took charge in 2022.

In a video shared by CEO Linda Yaccarino from X, she expresses that it’s harmful when the space for sharing ideas becomes limited. She believes no exclusive group should control what gets profit-driven in her article for X. She further stated that the aim of this boycott might have been to prevent X users, including sports enthusiasts, gamers, reporters, activists, parents, and leaders from accessing the Global Town Square. Such actions tarnish our industry’s reputation, and they should not be tolerated.
