DJ Johnnie Walker announced his retirement from the broadcasting industry due to a diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Upon wrapping up his stint on BBC Radio 2, Walker took a moment to thank his fans for their unwavering support throughout his musical journey. At 79 years old, he expressed great satisfaction with the time he spent hosting Sounds of the 70s. Over time, this program transformed into a Sunday Afternoon Club, where various activities were enjoyed by all involved.
He further added that he had lots of fun spending the Sunday afternoon with his fans and how that time won’t be the same again. Walker also mentioned that now Bob Harris will be replacing him in the Sounds of the 70s. As he closed the show, he said that it would be strange to be not on the airwaves anymore. However, Walker mentioned that the break from work would allow him to rest. The DJ signed off from the Radio Show stating:
“Thank you for being by my side all these years. Take care of yourself and those dear to you, as we venture into the future with pride and joy in our hearts. May blessings be upon you.
