Why did Ju Haknyeon exit The BOYZ?

As a devoted follower, I was taken aback when I heard the news that our beloved South Korean-Hong Kongese band member from The Boyz is departing the group.

Through their official platform, which was once Twitter, the record label for the boy band announced that personal issues concerning member Ju Haknyeon had caused him to leave the group. They also stated that they had investigated facts about Haknyeon’s private life and chose to end his exclusive contract as a result.

The company One Hundred announced, “We understand the gravity of this matter now and have concluded that we can no longer uphold trust in him as an artist. After thorough discussions with THE BOYZ members, we’ve decided that Ju Haknyeon will leave the group permanently and we will terminate his exclusive contract.

Previously, debates about Haknyeon’s personal life surfaced following reports by Korean media that the K-pop star had encountered a Japanese adult film actor. The stories suggested that he visited a bar in Roppongi on May 29, 2025, where he spent time with former adult video actress Asuka Kirara. (As reported by Chosun Biz)

Certain media outlets also shared images of Haknyeon and Kirara embracing early on May 30th. The emergence of these photos sparked frustration among fans about the singer’s actions. In South Korea, celebrity dating is a sensitive subject, as it’s something that is often kept private due to social norms, which has been a topic of discussion among many international fans.

On December 6, 2017, Ju Haknyeon made his debut in the K-pop scene as a singer, rapper, and main dancer for the group The Boyz. Prior to this, he participated in Mnet’s talent competition, Produce 101 Season 2. He exited the show in the 19th place.

Beyond his work in the music industry, Haknyeon has also been a regular on various variety shows. His acting debut came in the 2022 horror film “Seoul Ghost Story,” where he starred alongside several other K-pop idols such as Jaehyun from Golden Child, SeolA and Exy from WJSN, Shownu from Monsta X, Arin from Oh My Girl, and Minhyuk from BTOB.

Meanwhile, Ju Haknyeon has yet to comment personally on his departure from The Boyz.
