Why Galactus Was Cut From Fantastic Four Reboot Revealed

Jeremy Slater, the writer of the “Fantastic Four” movie from 2015, has shared details about the initial plans to incorporate Galactus in the reboot. In a recent interview, he mentioned that the concept of Galactus was modified several times before it was ultimately removed from the film. This revelation is made as Marvel Studios gears up for the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in July 2025.

Jeremy Slater reveals canceled plans for Galactus in Fantastic Four reboot

During an interview with ComicBook.com in June 2025, Jeremy Slater expressed his intentions, stating, “I initially planned to make him our main antagonist, but there were some objections. At first, he was our main antagonist. Then, he was only going to appear in a single scene. Later, he was limited to the post-credits scene.” However, this character did not end up appearing in the final version of the project.

Slater’s original idea sought to revamp Galactus, making him more faithful to the comic book version, rather than the representation in the 2007 film. As someone who may have voiced criticisms about Galactus being portrayed as a cloud on Ain’t It Cool News at that time, he was eager to restore the classic Galactus design, inspired by Jack Kirby. If they manage to achieve this, he can’t wait to witness him in reality.

The 2015 Fantastic Four film, helmed by Josh Trank, underwent substantial alterations due to studio demands. It appears there were contrasting ideas between Trank and Slater regarding the project’s direction. Slater drew inspiration from the tone of The Avengers, while Trank seemed to favor a more somber, realistic style. Slater stated, “I believe the script I was crafting, and the movie I had in mind, was more aligned with that initial phase of what Avengers was accomplishing at the time, rather than anything else.

On July 25, 2025, Marvel Studios’ latest production titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set to hit the screens. This film features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach portraying the main characters. Ralph Ineson takes on the role of Galactus, while Julia Garner will be seen as Silver Surfer. The narrative is set in a visually appealing universe that draws inspiration from the 1960s, with a heavy emphasis on cosmic elements.
