Recently, Florence Pugh shared her thoughts about avoiding roles similar to Dani from Ari Aster’s film, “Midsommar”. Naturally, fans are eager to know more about Pugh’s comments.
Here is what Florence Pugh said about her Midsommar role and its impact on her life.
Florence Pugh comments on her role in ‘Midsommar’
Florence Pugh had taken on roles that left herself “broken” for an extended period of time.
In a conversation with Josh Smith on his podcast, Reign with Josh Smith, the actress compared her experience in a project similar to Midsommar to pushing herself beyond limits. She further explained that she had come to realize over time the importance of shielding herself from accepting roles that might be excessively challenging due to their demanding nature.
Nevertheless, Pugh expressed no remorse over acting in the movie, instead expressing pride in her role. She further stated, “Yes, there are certainly aspects one must respect about oneself.
In Midsommar, the character Dani, played by Pugh, is depicted as a woman deeply affected by grief, following the suicides of her sister and parents. She attends a nine-day midsummer celebration in response. However, throughout this event, she finds herself ensnared in perilous rituals and ceremonies. By the film’s end, these harrowing experiences appear to have driven her mad.
In a podcast interview on Off Menu in March 2023, Pugh confessed that she hadn’t played a character like Midsommar’s Dani before, and the role was incredibly challenging. She explained, “I’d often find myself in very distressing scenarios that some actors might avoid, but I would just visualize the worst possible outcomes.” Each day of filming seemed to make her performance more demanding as she filled her mind with increasingly dark thoughts.
