As a diehard Marvel fan who has followed Shang-Chi’s journey since the comics, I can confidently say that the anticipation for Shang-Chi 2 is palpable. Four years have passed since the movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” premiered in cinemas, leaving fans curious about the progress and release date of Shang-Chi 2. With no recent updates on the sequel and Simu Liu’s martial arts superhero not featuring in any subsequent Marvel Cinematic Universe projects lately, there’s been a lot of speculation among fans whether the project has been shelved or postponed at Marvel Studios.

The interest in the project has escalated even more, particularly since it was announced that Destin Daniel Cretton, known for directing Shang-Chi, will helm Marvel Studios and Sony’s next Spider-Man film, titled Spider-Man 4.

Is Marvel’s Shang-Chi 2 canceled or delayed?

It’s uncertain if Marvel Studios has postponed or scrapped the release of Shang-Chi 2, as they haven’t officially confirmed anything.

In spite of this, Destin Daniel Cretton and Simu Liu remain involved with the project. In fact, Liu posted two updates about Shang-Chi 2 back in 2024. The first one was in April when he responded to a Threads user, saying “I proooomiss it’s happening,” implying that the production is indeed moving forward. This comment came in response to concerns raised by a fan who felt Marvel had neglected the Shang-Chi fanbase and noted that Shang-Chi was not featured in any of the recent Marvel films.

In an interview with Press Trust of India in August 2024 during the promotion of his film Jackpot!, alongside co-stars Awkwafina and John Cena, Liu stated: “While many details are beyond my control, I can confirm that it’s moving forward. I’m simply thrilled to contribute and I believe it will be fantastic. Unfortunately, I can’t share more than that.” (The Barbie star)

When will Shang-Chi 2 come out?

It is currently unclear when Shang-Chi 2 will be coming out.

Given that no official announcements regarding the project have been made, and with the passing of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con without any news, it appears likely that the project might not be released until later in Phase 6, possibly following Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, or even venturing into Phase 7.

It’s quite possible that Shang-Chi 2 might release towards the end of Phase 6 or even in Phase 7 due to director Destin Daniel Cretton’s involvement in multiple projects like a live-action Naruto film, the Wonder Man series, and Spider-Man 4.
